Michigan's about to get a higher minimum wage--6.95 by I think Oct., up to $7-something by some point in '07 I think. I look forward to it; I currently make $6.25--that's well over minimum wage but I'll still get a raise when it goes up.

Meh. Not really. It depends on where, exactly, you are, but....on my salary, I doubt I'd be able to make a car payment, a car insurance payment, a rent/utilities payment, and my student loan payment.

Which is half the reason I'm still living with my mom, and likely to be for a very long time. I hate it.

People insist that if minimum wage went up, joblessness would go up because businesses could no longer afford as many employees, and inflation would also go up because they then have to charge more to pay the employees more. In a few cases, the former is probably true, though I doubt it'd be as widespread as a lot of people say. In many, the latter would probably be true because businesses would rather raise their price than take a cut in their profit. And I'm sure some would see it as "oh look, they make more money, we can raise our prices." So whether anyone would be that much better off....I'm not sure. It's a very vicious cycle.
