I also don't get why it is so taboo not to be a 'kid person'. I mean, I generally like kids but I see nothing wrong with someone who isn't comfortable around them and prefers the company of adults. As long as they aren't spewing forth hatred or hurting kids, what is the big deal?
It really ticks me off that the childfree are often compared to the KKK and the Nazis if you dare to say a bad word about a kid. I recently read a post in a blog that was comparing the childfree to the KKK.
Oh, oh. I can answer. My mom imbedded these reasons in my head as a little girl. She talked about my childfree aunts all the time in a very negative way.
The bigggest one I learned was:
Not wanting children means you are cold. It means you don't care about people.
The KKK don't care about black people. Childfree people don't care about babies. Childfree is interpreted as being baby-haters. It is very old-fashioned, I know.
My mother taught me that childfree was very wrong. Yet in my adult life that is exactly what I am. But I am not a cold person or whatever negative stereotype goes with being CF. I am not my mother's favorite daughter and I know it's because of the CF thing. It pisses me off all the time how much she favors my sister whose life is so messed up because of her inability to make sound decisions, but she has children so she is the "blessed" one. <img src="/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
