The results of thefirst tour of elections gave Donald Tusk minimal advantage over Kaczynski. According to the polls - he should have at least 5-6% more votes. It is the same syndrom as with the Freedom Union (Unia Wolnosci) that was always overestimated.
I start believing that Kaczynski would win in the second tour - because all these people who supported Andrzej Leppert - farmers, people from villages and small towns and half of people who form an iron communistic electorat (policemen etc) would vote for Kaczynski.
Tusk is generally liked among young, educated, big city people - and they influence the polls more that the village and small town.
Kaczynski was underestimated since his electorat is underestimated
I do not know what to think about all of this. Tusk need to try to attract broader range of Poles!!!! Not only these who visit the internet and know English pretty well (our readers).

Walesa supports Tusk. Tusk came today to Gdansk to thank walesa. Walesa stated that Kaczynskis brothers like to mess up things. They do not build - they rather ruin.
What is interesting - Kaczynski's were working for Walesa when he was a president - but I believe they sticked to Walesa for power not because they represent the same political option. They are just good politicians

Nobody wants to comment anything on elections? Maybe we need to wait after the run-off elections would really happen!

OK Jaga I will make a comment. There are many of us that are interested in the election, the candates and the outcome of the elections BUT, only the citizens of Poland and those eligable to vote are qualified to make the remarks. Good manners dictate that those who ARE NOT qulified have no right to make any comments except wishing and praying for the best in Poland. Your comments and observations are most welcome and we do read and appreciate them. Do not be discourged, we are watching.

Also, I know that a lot of Polish-Americans in my genealogy crowd are watching closely as well, waiting to see what happens. We all wish the very best for Poland.

Just an anegdote. I was sitting yesterday at my clinic (what a posh word for a place like that) in pain waiting for my family doctor to have mercy upon me and see me. I was listening to two women coplaining about the health care. One of them said: I will never vote for Tusk, because all he wants is everything private, health care too, and how would I afford it? In the middle of all these debates, quarrels, accusations etc that are sweeping through Poland now people are getting more and more confused, their fears are growing, cofusion and mess as well. We, including me, tend to forget that President is not as powerful as the American one, has just the right to veto parliaments decisions, is the head of the military force and represents Poland outside the country. It is not much. Not enough to antagonize the citizens against each other. I have my favourite candidate but if he loses the battle, I won't cry.And I won't emigrate.

I agree with Bob and Nancy.
Heck, if you really need our opinion we'll send over our living presidents to offer some.
Now, that idea would be interesting.
Whoever gets elected, I wish you all the best with your choice.

Zooba,
yes, you are right. There are many issues which are not easily solved by a president. As for the healthcare - is it better to have a free but poor healthcare or good and expensive? Not an easy questions especially since I am not impressed with American healthware (version two).
John, Bob, Nancy - I am glad you are interested in the elections. I know this is not that easy for you to follow and yes - you have a right to talk about it even if you do no vote!
It is as like saying that non-Americans cannot critize American president since they do not vote

Jaga,
I was just listening to radio reportage that the US health care system has slipped badly in the last decade or two. The simple measure is in length of life and in infant mortality. After WW II we were near the top in the world and now we are well below the leading nations!
Looking for numbers to compare I raqn across two interesting sites I'll have to explore, ones that I will elave to intersted individuals rather than excerpt the numbers that interest me alone. Kai. Did you ever notice all the admonitions that are in news stories or advertisements: "if you stub your toe while jogging", "if you have the sniffles", "if you have a bruise or scrape while playing too hard", "if you have a headache", "if you have a hangover", etc. etc. etc. CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR! In days past people would have paid very little attention to such trivial every day aches and pains; Today though, it is "off to the hospital emergency room" or "consult your doctor". If you hit the jackpot you can always sue the healthcare workers for malpractice.
