The only one I can think of is maybe a Depo shot? My friend does that- it eliminated her periods completely and she loves it, but some women have really bad reactions to it. Also- who knows how it would affect your sex drive! I would be worried about the condom thing also- too much risk there for me. So that is all that I know of short of sterilization which can be hard to get a Dr. to do.

There are also new "mini" BC pills out there now that contain less in the way of hormones- that might help with the sex drive thing :-)

Whatever you decide to do be sure it is what you want and good luck!

I think I may just suffer with it for now. I go back to the obgyn in March I'll take to my Dr then about other options. Man it's hell what us women have to go through to have kids (if we want) and to not have kids! All the men have to do is just show up!

Lynn,

My man and I are going back to condoms and lube...it seems like stepping back into the stone age, but right now, it's just so great to want to rip his clothes off again! I'm interested in checking out polyurathane condoms, rumor and advertising have it that they're stronger than latex which allows them to be made quite a bit thinner. Anybody know?

I'm a teensy bit allergic to latex, so I definitely need an alternative to the old kind.

We haven't fully decided to have or not have kids yet, so a vasectomy isn't on the table yet...when it's time to though, my husband has said he'll be cool with that. We'll see though...It's that whole [censored] thing....

Remember...rhythm is only for dancing.

Aren't you scared with the condoms? I guess I feel so much more protected with the pill like less worry. But if it helped you that much getting of the pill I just may give it a try. Hubby doesn't care what I use pill, condom, he would just like to get more offten!! ha ha

No, I'm not too concerned about it. I've been sexually active since I was 20 and up until 5 years ago, I'd always used condoms (it was an STD and BC thing...) and I never got pregnant. If you get it on right, it's pretty effective for preventing babies. When I was younger it was far more important to not have kids than now and I always trusted condoms. Of course there is the whole question of whether I'm able to get pregnant, not that I have a family history of anything that would indicate that I couldn't, but one never knows.

I think you should give it a try...I honestly do feel so much better now that my body's getting to make its own hormones!

I know it's just as affective as the pill but I guess I like I said with the pill I have no worries but I have been thinking about giving the pill up and using condoms just to see if my sex drive would change. I guess I'll never know unless I give it a try.

Hi...someone mentioned the BC pills that have you menstruate 4X/year. I take those because I have horrible migrains that last 1 to 2 weeks. I used to take Ortho Cyclen and love them, except I was in bed at least one week a month. With Seasonale, I am only in bed about 4 or 5 weeks a year. But, WARNING - Seasonale has caused lots of acne for me. I have ALWAYS had very clear skin. Acne has never been a problem (even when I was a teenager) but now I fight with it constantly. But, it is either the headaches or acne so I chose acne. Just wanted to warn you in case you decided to try them. As for lack of sex drive...I'm like some of the others...been taking BC for so long, I wouldn't know if they caused a lack of sex drive. I can tell you though that I feel drained of energy alot due to these pills.

How can you prove whether at this moment we are sleeping, and all our thoughts are a dream; or whether we are awake, and talking to one another in the waking state?

ElvisFan,

I don't know how old you are, or where you are in relation to wanting to have kids or such...

but I, too suffer from horrid migraines. I have 3 children, and this past year started having some major bleeding problems. I finally talked by GYN into doing a hysterectomy (complete w/ ovaries), and my migraines are soooooooooooo much better! If i could have figured out a way for them to have taken my uterus and ovaries as soon as I had my last baby I would go back in time and do it!

It has really made that big a difference. Besides, you don't need birth control then! Of course it IS rather permanent! <img src="/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

I recently started using depo myself. Sex was almost liek a hobby to me and I loved it, now my sex drive has slowed down but when we do it now its so much more meaningfull. I never have to worry about condoms slipping off or breaking and my period has also stopped which is awesome. At first I didnt feel well but after a week or so it was great, I recommend it very much. Its cheap and lasts like 3 months at a time

I've been on the pill for 17 years and I've never had a problem; my husband and I have always enjoyed an active sex life. A friend of mine tried the depo shots and it totally shut down her sex drive - we joked that it was an excellent form of birth control because you never wanted to have sex - but I think it only has that effect on a small percentage of women.
