If my mother were selfish enough to not have me in the first place, it's a lot better than if she were selfish enough to have me, then deprive me of a good life when I'm alive.

I'd just have to tell 'em: Well, that would have pleased my dad! He finally told me he wished he'd only had two or three kids, and I'm the fourth. C'est la vie - I got over it, but haven't spoken to him since.

Lots of negativity on the board today.

I think the only comments I'm tired of getting are how CF people (not just those who have chosen to be fully CF but those who just haven't had kids yet) just can't possibly understand what its like to have children. Sure, I can't understand what its like to "have" them (if they mean give birth). But I can relate to what its like to have them in the household or part of your life. I was a child once and have pretty good memories of what a monster I was and how much mom/dad had to go through if I were sick or injured or just needed that major something extra. I'm not mentally deficient, so I can "understand" that. And if there's something I'm not getting, explain it. If I look at you like you have feathers for brains, so be it.

I think only 1 person said that to me. I believe my response was, that'd be great, then I wouldn't have to have this conversation with you. I have seen the bumper stickers about what if your mom had an abortion. But I guess that's a whole other board!

I always change the subject, or not have it brought up at all. I switch the topic to my dogs or cat!
Sometimes, going along is best. The reciever gets there fix and you are off the hook.
Who cares if you do not get to proclaim your CF status?
You are CF, and that is all that matters!
We really do not give a hoot what they think we think anyways, right?
If we did, we would not be CF, and trying to reason with the childed is pointless-
there is a no return policy for kids and babies.

I have gotten several emails as MNK editor with that comment. No one has ever said it to my face though. It is such a ridiculous comment, I have trouble even responding to it! Especially since my mother has pretty much always known that I wouldn't want kids! She completely supports me. My mother's choices have nothing to do with my own life!

[color:"blue"] I'd respond with "if". Ha! I've never been told, "What if your mother felt that way." But I do feel that it is uncalled for. How uncouth. I'd rather NOT be alive than be alive. Do they think that anyone likes suffering on earth? We has human beings will suffer (unfortunately) because of sin. I suffer from depression and the blues; does anyone honestly think I enjoy it?

Wild fern, I also hate it when they say, You wouldnt understand it unless ect.ect.ect. Well I dont give r-a-t-s-a-s-s. Any d-a-m-n crack whore can get pregnant. Its not rocket science or any new idea or concept. Gee, if youve popped out that given sprog, you arent any better than Charles Manson, or Andrea Yates. Big whoopee do. But they certainly would never understand what it is like to be childfree, whether it be by choice, or not.

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."

When people say- if your mother.... they are correct.
but only logically.
all of us have our own free choices and unless we hurt the society, our choice should be respected.

It used to really annoy me when people said that to me; but now i just laugh and ask them if that's the best argument they can come up with! It's just so silly!
If you're going to argue with me, then at least be armed with something better than that!
