My 4 yr old son was diagnosed with epilepsy in May. He was on dilantin and Keppra. We just took him off the dilantin, but he is still on the Keppra. It has been a hard few months. His attitude has completely changed. He is violent and angry. I talked to the Dr that said Well, it is either the violence or the seizures. He has calmed down since we took him off the Dilantin. Luckly, we are getting our loving son back. But now I have the fear of seizures again. They cant tell me what is causing it. None of the tests are showing anything. That is good, but also very frustrating. I know they can out grow them, but they won't tell me anything.

Is anyone else going through this? Any advice or if you just want to share your story, that would be great.

Judith, I'm so sorry to hear about your son. The doctor's attitude sounds a little less than sympathetic. Maybe there is another specialist in the area that will treat you more like family, with compassion. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I had heard about a few people who had gotten a pet who could sense a seizure coming on. The pet would lay (stay) next to the child before and during the episode to protect them. Given your son's age, that might be a valuable resource to add to your family. Just a thought. I'll pray for your son and your family. God bless you! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the prayers. I just saw this reply. He has continued to be seizure free (since May 2005). We have talked about a dog and read up on getting a dog, but they are so expensive. We are going to slowly take him off of the meds next year. I am hoping to maybe get him one before then, so he has someone with him at all times. The dr has gotten better. They still have no clue what is wrong with him. They think it may be an isolated thing. We can only continue to pray about it.
