Kimberly,

So we are kindred souls! I'll let you know when I take my dream roadtrip and I look forward to hearing about your wanderings in Europe!

Lily,

I typically never use a travel agent when booking my vacations, but that's not to say that they can't get you some great comps and upgrades, especially if you're traveling in a group. I would be sure to ask an agent just want they can do for you and then compare it to the price of purchasing your cruise alone through an online travel site. When I sailed with Princess, we bought our tickets through Walmart.com and were upgraded automatically about a month before departure (we declined the upgrade, though, because it put us in a room above the casino). However, we did have a problem with the room view being partially blocked and we really had no recourse since we booked with Walmart.

My husband and I have always talked about just traveling the US. We have family in CAL, so just a trip around the country would be nice. I want to do the return of the whale cruise off of CAL. I have been to France, but this time with my husband I would do a wine tour. I would do everything first class. I would do a spa trip too. I need that one more than anything else. A week at a health spa anywhere- no noise, just rest.

Judith,

I think we should all ban together and get a massive group discount at a health spa! I know there's plenty of people out there needing some rest and relaxation!!!!

My in-laws took an Alaskan Cruise, and they said "Make Sure You Get A Room On The Side Of The Ship Facing The Land", unless you want a view of the water on your cruise up the Alaskan coast. Or down the Alaskan coast. I was not aware that it was just a one way cruise either. So I guess I would splurge on cruising up and down the Alaskan coast.

That's an interesting point about the Alaska cruise. I guess in order to see everything, you really do have to splurge!

Bumping an old thread since it seems such an interesting topic.

I have lots of price is no object destinations, styles of travel but I'd have to say Australia, Thailand, Tibet and the Orient Express.

those are awesome ideas. I guess I would splurge on prices to get to unique places as well like Africa and Asia.

If I'm somewhere more local, I splurge on a very nice dinner or a night in a great hotel <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> For instance, when I was in Nashville I went to one of the nicest restaurants for Valentines day...and I'm hoping to go to New Orleans soon...so I'm looking for tips on some great restaurants there as well!

I already live in Europe for a few years, which is my dream travel destination anyway. We do take trips fairly often, but they're never more than 3-4 days each. If I had the money (and the time), I would spend more time at each destination, stay at a better hotel, splurge on better meals, and go see a performance of some sort, be it symphony, ballet, or theatre.
