Thank you SOOOOOO much dear Tara for your reply (cool name!).
I have to say, of all the forums I visit, and there are a few... BellaOnline always seems.. rather INTELLIGENT!
I posted this same exact post into Michio Kaku's Einstein-like genius forums, and some admin cut it down to one paragraph and ... boy oh boy I got mad, and that is veeery difficult! Me, mad? I replied how reducing things to commercial sized, short attention span, lowest common denominator sound-byte doesn't even allow one to communicate anything.. and he said "if you are going to get quippy.." so I give up! A brainy board like that, telling me to reduce intelligent posts to small bite-sized chunks.. well I'm sorry but one of the greatest use of discussions like this is... GETTING SOMETHING OUT! Phew! Thanks for the release, dear Bella.. he he..
Back on this topic: Every book of Lakoff's that I read transforms me immensely - for the better! I am a computer-database-nerd, and he posits that thoughts aren't some random floating thing (or think he he.. ) but happen BECAUSE we have 2 arms, 2 legs, our social interactions and such. He has broadened my thinking about what philosophy means in the basic, and even global contexts!!!
The part I quoted starts by saying that our conscious mind is only 5% of our total mind, he proves it logically, then goes on to state that we need to rethink philosophy considering that fact. I am from Berkeley Califunny and bizarelly, almost no-one there knows about Bishop Berkeley who the town is named after. His study was on PERCEPTIONS and how all that we know comes from our perceptual organs - and can we fully trust them? So you see, I have the strange ability to look into things, find out what Berkeley really means, and Lakoff's theories about CATEGORIZATION, and PHILOSOPHY IN THE FLESH really resonate with me.
I believe that the more we share and discuss this type of information: COGNATIVE SCIENCE instead of some mystic mumbo-jumbo (don't get me wrong, I am into chakras, total detachment, the now etc...), the more we advance our thinking based on well founded science, the more we advance as human beans and collectively as a civilization. Example: I talk about chakras as ENDOCRINE GLANDS because those, scientifically exist and have important functions. Rethinking esoterics, mystical things through logical and scientific filters. Yes!
May our sharing and discussing of awareness expanding information be useful, enlightening, and fun! Amen and Awomen. And so it is.
