I love this ad campaign. It gives a much more heathly view of women to my daughters.

My criticism of this campaign is that it is not communicating a message that average size women are (or even should be) the beauty norm. Instead of saying, "look at these models" it's saying, "oh, look at these not-so-beautiful women who are feeling beautiful because they use Dove."

I want to see all real models have bodies like these - instead of seeing them as some kind of compromise on what society really views as beautiful.

Remember, the only reason skinny is seen as beautiful is advertising in the first place.

For this month if you buy 2 dove products you will receive a free Dove 2006 calendar featuring photographs from the campaign and photo exhibition.

I picked mine up yesterday from Pharma Plus. It's about 5x6 in size and covers October 2005-December 2006. It's not a daily planner but nice to hang in your locker or by your desk for the odd important montly date.

Yes while I don't feel any woman should be held up and "inspected" to "see" if she's up to any kind of so called standard. I do feel we are a consumer/commercialism based society as a whole.
So while we don't see men held up to the same types of scrutiny,I do feel that it is important to include more mainstream types of women if you're going to advertise in the first place.

I do enjoy seeing the inclusion of all types of people in commercials.
Old/young,fat/skinny,bald/hairy...etc.

And it seems that fat is and has been such an accepted predjudice, its somewhat of a stride in the right direction.

I love the Dove ads and have started buying their products to support it. Their hair care products are really good. I'm going for the body wash next.

One thing though....I wish at least some of the women were a bit larger. Those women still don't reflect me or most of the women I know.

I totally agree with you. Although the black woman is very close.

Dove is really going all out with it's campaign. I heard about this latest promotion: Dove Calming Night - Nighttime Classics Featuring Felicity Huffman:

Basically they have her making mini cameos in the Brady Bunch, The Munsters and Leave it to Beaver.
