I just finished reading Sylvia Browne's Book of Dreams and found the following excerpts quite interesting. From Sylvia Browne's "Book of Dreams"
"Prophetic Dreams are always in color, and their action always takes place in a logical sequence. Because you're "dreaming" about events that haven't happened yet, which you'd have no other way of knowing about, you can count on it that your prophetic dreams are really the result of an astral trip to the Hall of Records on The Other Side, which all of our life charts are housed and where, then, by definition, the future is written and just waiting to unfold. Never assume you can't have prophetic dreams because you're not psychic during the day. I am psychic, and I've never had a prophetic dream in my life. And don't ever forget that if prophetic dreams are among your gifts, they were given you to use kindly, compassionately, and responsibly, or not at all."
"Release Dreams are our way of "emotionally exhaling" and working out some of our fears and frustrations and stress and anger during the night so that we won't have to carry the whole burden of them during the day. Nightmares fall under the heading of release dreams, and thank God for them, because without them we'd all be certifiably insane and/or homicidal. They're usually jumbles of chaotic images, as turbulent as the negativity they're helping us get rid of. The minute you spot something in the dream that makes no logical sense, appreciate knowing that it's not a prophetic dream, and that you can program yourself to rewrite it to a happy ending, where you face whatever's chasing you or defeat whoever or whatever is tormenting you."
"Wish Dreams are exactly what they sound like, but often deeper than we give them credit for. Occasionally, they're meant to be taken at face value, and dreaming of buying a sports car or taking a trip to Disneyland means nothing more than that you want a new car or a trip to Disneyland. But the real value of wish dreams is in looking beneath the surface to the emotional and spiritual results you'd get from that sports car ("I want to boost my self-image" or "I'm feeling ignored and want to be noticed") or from that trip to Disneyland ("I need to escape" or "I wish my family could have a happy day together.")"
"Information and Problem-Solving Dreams lead us to wake up with solutions we didn't have when we went to sleep, a guarantee that our spirits have been very busy while we slept, either receiving the information or solutions telepathically or astrally traveling to wherever they can be found, whether it's on earth or at Home. It's pure logic. If something doesn't come from inside us, it has to have come from somewhere else, and our spirits know how to get there even when our conscious minds don't. Like prophetic dreams and astral experiences, information and problem-solving "dreams" unfold in a logical, sequential order."
"Astral Visits are as real a connection to loved ones, both here and on The Other Side, as they invariably seem to be. We can astrally travel to anyone we want to see, and with our busy, skeptical conscious minds out of the way, we can have wonderful reunions with anyone who comes to visit us. Anytime you see yourself flying in a dream without the benefit of a plane, you're on an astral trip, and when you wake up feeling as if you've spent time with a loved one while you slept, you'll do yourself a great disservice if you dismiss the feeling as nothing but your imagination. Don't ever doubt the power, joy, and comfort the spirit world has to offer, and it's a world your spirit knows like the back of its hand because, when it's not occupying a human body for an incarnation it's decided it needs, your spirit is alive and thriving in that world back Home."
"There are also some terms you'll want to keep in mind as you work on making sense of and friends with your dreams.
"Archetypes are the symbols we use in our dreams to represent the people, fears, frustrations, ad other emotional issues we're processing while we sleep. While there are countless classic, traditional definitions of what whose symbols mean in the context of dreams, no definitions of what those symbols mean in the context of dreams, no definitions are more important or more accurate then your own unique emotional and spiritual connection to whatever archetypes you're using. Before you ever turn to a dream dictionary or the list of archetypes and their traditional definitions in this book, always ask yourself first, 'What does this symbol really mean to me?'"
"Astral Catalepsy is a scary but harmless phenomenon that happens when the conscious mind becomes vaguely aware that the spirit has been out of the body and is in the process of reentering, which causes he conscious mind to panic. And panic is an understatement. Classic symbols of astral catalepsy are a feeling of physical and vocal paralysis, the sense that there's an evil presence holding you down and/or lying on top of you and/or molesting you, and loud inexplicable noises that sound like anything from crackling to explosions to every radio in the world playing a different station at full blast. Astral catalepsy is fairly common and again, despite all sensations to the contrary, completely harmless. A simple nightly prayer for your spirit's quick and easy reentry into the body can cure astral catalepsy once and for all."
"Daydreams are, in a way, spontaneous meditations, blessings that hit us when we're not expecting them and that we only know are happening when they're already in progress. They're usually positive, happy experiences, but when we're using them inadvertently to reinforce worries and fears, we can program ourselves to refuse to indulge in negativity and see to it that all of our daydreams become affirmations."
"Lucid dreams can fall into any of the five dream categories, with the difference that in a lucid dream, you actually realize during the dream that you're dreaming. The instant that realization hits, the dream is yours to do with as you please, and lucid dreams are a great opportunity to "show off" for yourself and practice being everything you've ever wanted to be and more."
"Remote viewing is a skill that lets us perceive details about an item or location that we're separated from by physical, geographical, or time barriers. It's a great talent for the conscious mind to develop, since it helps develop that mental "muscle" that opens us to the realization that we can see anything we want, whenever we want, without ever leaving the house. The better we get at remove viewing during our waking hours, the more easily we'll be able to remember the details of our astral travels at night."
"Telepathy is the direct, silent communication of information, knowledge, or feelings from one person's mind or spirit to another without either the "sender" or the "receiver" using any of the five senses in the process. Telepathy can be accomplished while we're awake or asleep, but it's especially convenient during prophetic and information-and-problem-solving dreams, when our spirit minds are wide open to sending and receiving instantaneous knowledge."
"Totems are the animals we handpick on The Other Side to watch over us and protect us for the lifetime we're about to undertake. They frequently appear in our dreams and are mistaken for a threatening animal who's chasing us to hurt us, when the truth is they're only running because we are, so that they can do their job and never leave our side."

Hi Muriel!
I was leery of Sylvia Browne at first but she seems to have a good following. That's a lot of good info! but I'm not sure I agree with her stance on contacting our beloved dead through astral travel or dreams. I think we should be open to their visits and put the desire out there, but knocking on their door doesn't allow them peace.
That's if I read that passage right, I haven't had all my coffee yet
I need to add that one to my library. I'll take your word for it that she's good.

This is an extremely interesting post. I have heard of Sylvia but have never seen her nor read her work. This would mean that T-Rex and Godzilla are actually trying to catch up with me, rather than trying to harm me! And those snakes! I can't imagine having dinosaurs and snakes as totems, but they are the animals in my dreams the most. I did play with lizards and toads as a young girl, and I still love them. (I evacuated tadpoles with me when Dennis blew through here recently) Maybe I have a reptile/amphibian thing going on. I would rather have T-Rex by my side than chasing me! The remote viewing I have had happen when I am in a veryrelaxed state, but I never knew what it was or that it had a name. I assumed it was a "vision".

Well miss firefly, as parthena can tell you reptiles represent very primal energy, depending uon which reptile is concerned. Animals of an amphibious nature can take on several meanings, frogs are usually symbolic of spring, metamorphosis, new changes of an emotional state (water being the element most associated with the emotional realm) and a host of other things based upon region, species and time of year. and now im off to pull a double at work =] later

What Wendy Tall One said - and Native Americans describe several different types of totems. Native American Spirituality and Dreams Some also believe that the animal will continue to show up until you have paid attention to its message and have taken action!

I appreciate your input, Wendy Tall One and Parthena. The dream book I have does not list dinosaurs. It does not say much about snakes, however I have looked these up on this site. What I have gotten out of my dreams over and over is transitioning, changing, and starting about 4 years ago my life started changing very drastically in some aspects. None of it my doing. And I am still trying to figure out that last dream about my husband falling in the water. Which reminds me...I just dreamed I walked in a casual lunch eatery, there was a deep hole of water in the floor! A young girl fell in and never came up. I fell in and came up and got out. After exiting the building I was walking along and sank up to my waist in the red sand outside. My friends on either side of me pulled me out and we kept on walking. So the last two dreams have been about falling in the water and sinking in the sand! This does not sound good. I will hop off this hamster wheel I apparently live on and open the dream book, see what it tells me. And I will check the Dream Dictionary.

Firefly, water represents the spirit. Perhaps you are avoiding some spiritual growth or you are hesitant about it?
I think the sand is an obstacle you need others to help you with. Could be an obstacle that occurs because you "got out" of the water?

Thank you BellaDeb. Yes, I am avoiding the spiritual connection because I am hesitant about it. I no longer have the distractions of parenthood, which allowed me to ignore what was happening,(premonitions and all that stuff) and I am unsure what is going on, because I was raised Catholic by a mom who was raised by nuns. In my last two Godzilla/T-Rex dreams, I was at the beach, and when I fled into the water, I realized I was safe as long as I remained in the water! The sand thing, I think that is my life now, I feel so bogged down by what is happening; my husband retired several years ago and we built a new house, there are constantly people here, noise, phones, no peace and quiet. The total opposite of how I have spent my life and I cannot adjust. So those friends pulling me out of the sand, thank God for them. They along with my family are the ones helping me maintain. And Laugh. And this forum, it has been a big help with everyone's advice and knowledge. I am learning a lot here. The dream interpretations do not seem to be an easy thing for me but I will keep working at it!

I don't have an article specifically on dragons just yet *makes mental note*, but they are also associated with Fire You might also look at Lizard and Alligators and Monster

Many thanks again, Parthena. I have consulted your dream site, and my dream book and it was not too encouraging. I will keep working on this...and in the meantime I know I love lizards, and Godzilla, and I loved dinosaurs until the first T-Rex dream! On a brighter note, I am happy to announce, finally, that some of the situations borne of Hurricane Ivan's visit seem on the verge of being resolved and I may just be hopping off the hamster wheel in the near future!
