What do you think about young babies w/ pierced ears? When will/did you get your daughter's ears pierced?

Neither of my daughters have their ears pierced. I'm sure we will do it one day. I'd like to wait until they ask for it themselves. I suspect that Anya (3.5 yr old)will ask for it as soon as one of her friends does it.

In my household, my sister and I got our ears pierced when we asked our mom about it.

Mom told us how when she was a girl, my grandmother said that only gypsies and hookers had pierced ears. So, my mother didn't have pierced ears until she was married to my dad. One day he told her he wasn't buying her anymore really nice earrings until she got them pierced, as she was always losing one earring.... And then she got them pierced by her oral surgeon when she was having her wisdom teeth out! (late 1960s)

My sister wanted pierced ears when she was 5. I wanted them by 6th grade, hoping that people would stop thinking I was a boy. Then when I was in high school multiple earrings came into fashion and I now am an adult who wears a lot of earrings.

I went to the mall and had mine done when I was in high school. Back then (1970s) there were some who did piercings in the girls bathroom!

Do they still do it at the mall?

I have two boys so no piercings being done here. I still have one in each ear only.

On my daughter's 5th birthday (she's 9 now) we made a big day of her much anticipated "ear piercing day".
We went to the mall and shopped, had lunch, & went to the movies so she could show off her beautiful "big girl" look.
It was a day I planned for when she was just a newborn but I always knew that I would wait for her to tell me when she was ready...and she was very ready...didn't cry at all, just squeezed my hands very tight.

I remember getting my ears pierced in 4th grade...I had 2 done instead of just the one because I had had my ears pierced before that and they had closed, the girl that did my ears piperced above them because she didnt realize it was a re-peircing.
I had just 2 for years and years - was the cool girl in grade school for it as well...having 2 instead of just one.

Now as an adult I have 6 in each ear with little sterling hoops in each. It's quite fun telling men I have 12 piercings and seeing the gears in their head get turning until i tuck my hair behinid my ears.

I think it was this past season that Oprah got her ears pierced on the show. It was quite comical how she was acting over the piercing!

Wendy,

I pull that stunt *all* the time, and I've got 21 earrings all together.

heh Fun isn't it. I told my very conservative district manager that once and her eyes nearly popped out.

Yes, you can still get your ears pierced at the mall. My son and I were there the other day and I asked him if he wanted to get his pierced. He declined! I figured at 14 that was the cool thing to do these days. My brother has both of his ears and his eyebrow pierced. I have no clue when getting both ears pierced started being the in thing for guys.
