I agree with people here - it is too dangerous.

Salmonella and other bacteria, diseases and parasites are in raw meat which comes from the so called "unknown source," simply speaking one which didn`t get the vet`s approval.

I never buy such meat, the communist times when there wasn`t meat in Polish shops and people bought it at bazaar stalls are gone.

I don`t eat it very often, once in 3,4 months. I only satisfy my promordial instincts. After devouring raw meat, I can fully appreciate the fact that I am modern man.

Besides, I do not tear apart a big piece of meat with my teeth, like some savage caveman, I eat it in a cultural way, with spices and other stuff.

In my childhood one of my favourite books was "Odarpi - Egigwa`s son." It is about Eskimo people who once used to eat half-boiled or even raw seal meat every day.
I have always dreamed of becoming an Eskimo for a week or two.

Jerzy, what about the rest of your family? Will they eat it?

My wife tries it but really rarely. They are more civilised than me, and cannot overcome their prejudice. However, I think my sons, when they grow up, will one day follow their father`s tradition.
I haven`t met a woman in Poland who eats tatar. It is considered a man`s dish, just like tripes.

I have a German friend, Brigitte, who sometimes has raw hamburger with a raw egg on top - for breakfast (yuk!). She calls it "mince."

And my husband was on a German expedition to the Antarctic -he says they served this all the time as breakfast.

What does this mean about German men and women?

It probably means Germans have more primordial instincts in them to satisfy than other nations.
Besides, it may mean they are tough guys, almost like Russians ha ha ha ha.
PS. Did your husband find it tasty?

It is called "befsztyk tatarski" or simply "tatar" in Polish.

I think I have eaten something like this - with vodka as an accompaniment.

I also eat sushi on a regular basis and it's never done me any harm....

He says he could not bear to look at it. Must be his gentle English-Scots-Californian ancestry.

Yes, vodka is good since it helps keep parasites at bay. I heard there are many of them in sushi.
Actually, vodka is good for everything, even poisonous fugu dish or nuclear radiation ha ha ha ha.

What I really like is raw Okra with a shot of salt on it but I like Okra no matter how it is prepared. Another good veggie are Turnip greens and Black Eyed peas.
