Is there a movie or TV show you have in mind when you think of what you'd like to experience on a cruise? I love Agatha Christie so you can probably guess which one I like, it involves the Nile

Ohhh, Lisa, Lisa, Lisa...the Love Boat, of course!

(And I won't be shocked if it's the next movie remake)

the loooooove boat, soon we'll be making anooooother run....

I loved the first Speed movie! Didn't bother with the sequel. Was it any good?

Actually Titanic is my favorite cruise movie, and I wouldn't mind being on the first half of that cruise...we all know what a bad idea it was being on the second half of it...

No the Speed II was atrocious, it tried to make you laugh while people were being killed. But it did have some nice scenes of a cruise ship

Yes Titanic is great, their attention to detail was painstaking. They actually used moulds from the Titanic's sister ship, and as much truly authentic material as they could. They went back to the source of the carpets to have fresh carpets done, that sort of thing. So it is an amazing movie to watch just from that point of view, to see as close to authentic re-creation as you could.

I seem to recall an I Love Lucy episode where Lucy had to be helicoptered onto the cruise ship because she missed the boat.

Neato, that would be a fun one to watch although I don't know how I'd find it now! I might have to buy an entire DVD of episode sets, if they have them ...

there were about three episodes where she and Ricky (also Ethel and Fred) were on the cruise (to Europe). Then there were about five episodes of them in Europe, doing fun things like cycling across France. Ricky was on a European tour with his Babaloo band.

Lucy cracks me up! I pop one in when I feel down and out.

Ooooo even better, so there are *multiple* episodes? This sounds like it's worth it for me to track it down!

Aha! It won't be released until August 16 2005 on DVD - I'll make sure I order it on NetFlix as soon as it's ready!

I LIVE for Netflicks. It's the only way to catch up on entire television series' that I dig.

BTW, some of the eps of Lucy in Europe are among the best ever - like the one where she learns to stomp grapes in Italy, and the one where Lucy and Ethel start a new Paris trend in Burlap dresses.

Sorry to go off track. Back to cruises. There was an interesting cruise ship sailing to a pleasure planet in the movie The Fifth Element, and the movie Total Recall promoted Cruises in the Rings of Saturn. A space ship may as well be a cruise ship, eh?

Oooo the stomping grapes one will get both my cruise site and wine site some content!!

I wonder if a cruise space ship counts as a cruise? I don't know, I think a cruise should include water Can you have a land cruise, or is it just a train?

LOL. It was definitely a cruise ship in body shape and atmosphere, though, in 5th Element. Complete with a show.

Love Boat was always a fun show but much of what went on that ship I have never seen on my cruises. But, I could be just naive and blind. Cruises on the Nile stir up wonderful memories as well.

LOL I've heard a lot of wild stories about what goes on during a cruise so maybe it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time!

Jill - how about the Starship Titanic?

Lisa, I'm probably too busy to get involved with some of that stuff; not only that, when your husband is with you, there is no need to look for a wild time. He wouldn't let me have too wild a time. <G>

If they named a Starship Titanic, i'd have reservations about boarding...is that being superstitious? LOL

Ah but it's nice to cut loose every once in a while and dance and karaoke

The Starship Titanic was a great computer game done by Douglas Adams, the characters in it were hilarous And yes, the starship did crash!

I almost hate to cut in on this one...but i will anyway!
I would go on any cruise like 5th Element, as long as there is no shooting, bombs, and the Diva is there to sing! (What a VOICE!)

i made my 8 yr old daughter listen to the soundtrack. She goes, "Mooooom (you know that long drawn out whiny thing), I don't like opera!" I said, "Just wait" - sure enough, that 1st beat hit, her eyes got about as wide as saucers and she starts dancin' all over the place. I think I may have changed her mind about opera!

LOL it's amazing how people build up stereotypes and need a jolt to realize the world is much wider than they thought

I'm sure that we could name any musical genre, and then find a song from that genre that we enjoy even if we dislike the genre in general

I'm still waiting for the Lucy episodes to be released!

Lisa, one of the Lucy cruise eps shows Lucy trying to get Fred over his fear of seasickness by taking him on the Staten Island Ferry. He DOES overcome it, but with all his talking about the ferry going uppppp and downnnnnn...and uppp and downnnn...Lucy ends up seasick. It's cute. If your dad is worried about the upcoming cruise with you, you two can watch that one together.

I'll have to describe it to him, I don't think I can get the DVDs in time

My dad's latest question was if there were giant squids between us and Bermuda

Hi All,

I realize this thread two years old, but I am new here and love cruising. If you want some good cruise films, you may want to watch Now, Voyager an old b/w Bette Davis movie, An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr or one of its remakes Love Affair with Annette Benning and Warren Beatty. These are all great cruise movie. Enjoy!!
