More and more wine makers are bottling their wines with screw caps. Many expensive wines ($44-$144) have been closed with screw cap. This is done to prevent corking.

I was at a wine seminar recently where we discussed screw caps. There are different types of caps being used. There are some that let in no air. There are others designed to let in the miniscule amounts of air that would occur with a natural cork.

One winery has been involved in a 15 year study of screw caps.

Screw caps are great. You can easily close a part drunk bottle, its easy to open. And no corked wine

I agree, the convenience is fantastic. On Thanksgivng I broke two corkscrews because of corks that were too dry (plus the people had cheap corkscrews).

I love them. I am horrible with corkscrews. I broke 2 corkscrews a few weeks ago too. My inlaws had cheap corkscrews too.

A good corkscrew is a must. I have one that from Germany that I've owned for 30 years. It's still my favorite.

I like to avoid wine "snobbery", so I'm trying to accept the screw cap as a convenience and a cost savings. But I really do enjoy using a corkscrew and hearing that satisfying POP as just one of the many rituals in wine drinking.
