My fave is Scattergories but I have people who absolutely will not play that with me anymore because they are...welll too close minded.

For those of you not familiar with the game you have die of sorts with letters on them and then a list of categories that words in those categories must start with the letter on the die but you should come up with the least obvious answer because if you match someone, you do not get points and others can vote on your word to keep it or not. This is where the problem comes in.

For instance, one game I remember in particular, the die came up with the letter "C" and the category was "States". So while they are putting things like California and Carolina, I put down "Confusion" for a "state" of mind. It doesn't say what kind of states or anything and they are assuming it means United States.

So of course no one is allowing my word and I was not a happy camper about it but I couldn't do anything either.

My absolute favorite board game is Arkham Horror, it takes place in a Lovecraftian setting and can have up to 9 players (I think). It helps a lot to have at least one person who's played it before but even without them it has sensible rules that are easy to pick up on once you get used to it. Nothing like fighting off an elder god! wink

Was this a Playstation 1 game? If so I had it and it was a lot of fun and I am trying to find it again but I had forgotten the name of it.

Is it where you try and beat other players by buying and setting up stores in like a multi level mall setting or something like that? The object is to try and build a store big enough to take up a whole floor or more?

I like trivial pursuits but I always loved strategy games like Risk or Axis & Allies ...

Mah Jong has got to be my favorite. Has anyone out there ever won the Classic game 'Pyramid'? I have played it 847 times and have not yet won. I love the challenge of Mah Jong and like the more difficult ones, but this Pyramid just has me boggled.

I play Scrabble every time I visit one DD and her children. I never pulled my punches when playing with the grandchildren, and one in particular was determined to beat me. She actually studied the dictionary to learn high-value words! Finally when she was about 12 she beat me at last, and it was a big moment for us all.

But, I'm with you, Vance, I don't like playing with people that are such, what's the word...rule followers?! laugh I mean, it's a game and you're suppossed to have fun, right? A little creativity goes a long way!

That's probably why just about anything goes with my forum ABC games. wink

Rule followers. That is a polite name to call them here on a family friendly forum. My name for them is not so family friendly laugh
