I personally love children. I personally don't feel financially ready to have children of my own. Everyone says you manage once you have a baby.
I think this is very mature. I don't understand why people get themselves into huge debt because they're in a hurry to have children before they can afford them.
I also don't understand how people have babies in a daycare for 9 to 10 hours a day. Not only is it expensive, but it really is unfair to the child. My mom stayed home with all of us children. Women don't have that option nowadays. Which is really sad.
I think that women (or men, if the woman is the chief breadwinner) do have that option (to stay home with the kids), it's just that most families choose not to make the sacrifices that would make it possible, instead they have to have the new, huge fancy car/SUV (almost a requirement here in Texas to get an SUV by the time the first child comes along), big fancy house, and designer clothes, etc. My mom stayed home with my brother and me. We didn't have lots of new things all the time, and my mom sewed and often made clothes for us. Still, we never lacked for anything. We just didn't get a new toy every time we went to the store. Toys were for special occasions, or if we'd done something special to earn it, or saved allowance to buy it. I would have much rather have my mom stay home with us than to have fancy, new toys and a fancy house to live in. A friend of mine worked while her kids were preschool age and put them in daycare. She and her husband had a nice house, but they wanted the big fancy one, so she had to work. Her kids BEGGED her to stay home with them. They didn't care about the big fancy house. They're turning out fine, but what will they remember about their childhood, being with daycare workers, or being with mom?

I don't like most kids....I don't actively dislike them either, I just prefer not to be in close quarters with them. I also don't care if other people have children....as long as they don't infringe on me. To each their own; different strokes for different folks, and all those other cliches. I do get annoyed at those parents who keep popping the babies out year after year after year and can't afford to care for them...I think people shoud take a very critical look at themselves and their lifestyles to determine whether they're ready to have kids - emotionally, mentally, FINANCIALLY - just wanting them is not enough. I saw a bumpersticker once that said, "If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em."
Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.

[color:"green"] Nice bumper sticker. I agree.
Does anyone else find toddlers ugly and annoying? I do. They freak me out.

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him." --Katherine Hepburn

[color:"darkgreen"] That's sad that they won't change their baby's nappy. I feel for the baby.
Yeah, toddlers can't help it, they do eventually grow out of it though.

I only like kids on a case by case basis. But honestly, I don't really like them at all until they're older. I get uncomfortable around babies and I detest the screaming toddlers. I remember working in retail and I was using the restroom (which we shared with all the customers) and a mother was changing her baby's diaper and she was talking to herself, or the kid, who knows, and she said "Hoo-wee! WHAT did you eat? It must have been that eggroll I gave you for lunch."
I just found it nasty. It was a small bathroom and she was broadcasting not only the wretched smell of the diaper but that her kid had diarrhea. I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it did.
It's all in the reflexes.

I don't care for babies and toddlers myself. Now SOME of them are rather cute. But that doesn't mean I wish to hold and/or play with them. Now once they his 7-8, I really like them. Until they hit about 14-15, that is, and start being brats again XD

[color:"red"] I prefer the 8-12 kids, myself. I just cannot stand babies, nor toddlers.

Generally, i don't like children AT ALL. I can tolerate them up to the age of one year, and then not at all until they hit about 12. I quite enjoy teenagers; they're so vocal and know-it-all. It's nice to see them so confident in their own thoughts and opinions. Eventually, life knocks a fair bit of that out of them. It's fun to watch them mouthing off to parents though, i must say. Working in the public sector, i have to deal with kids every day. They're not fun encounters! The majority of kids these days are spoiled and undisciplined. Or maybe that's just where i work! Anyway, i'd prefer not to have to deal with them at all. The worst thing is the parents who are expecting you to be fascinated with their child. Hello - i'm here to do a job, i don't care about the kid's doll/truck/new dress/mobile phone/book!!!!! Sorry.... usually i'm very calm. Must be that parent/child combo i had to deal with earlier.....
