Connie,
I love your stump planters. I have a hollow stump sitting in the side yard that I am going to put a few shade loving bedding plants in this year.

Katelyn, maybe you will start a new fad in your neighborhood! My 13 yr old said that stumps as planters looked "rednecked". I told him I guess that is me LOL! 2 of my neighbors already asked us where we got the stumps. I told them there are plenty left! Connie

Naw, Connie, rednecked is old tires painted turquoise and filled with geraniums along the roadside.

Anybody remember when gas stations used the old-tire trick to hold their plants? Now, any self-respecting "filling station" has a pro do up the unpaved areas of the property.

I bet there are still tire planters to be found though, in rural areas. Old styles, and I would date this from around the fifties, die out hard in some places.

Best,
Mary Ellen

I saw where someone had taken the tractor tires, turned them inside out (I have no clue how!) and then cut the edges of them and then painted them. Actually, it looked pretty neat! Don't think I could talk hubby into that one though LOL! Connie
