I have never given vitamins to my flock. Each day they are served (and most eat) vegetables, fruit, sprouts, cooked meat, etc along with appropriate seed and Kaytee Exact. I now have some breeding lovies and finches and it was mentioned I sprinkle 'feather up' on their food. I have a variety of birds (finches, lovies, keets, tiels and a quaker). Would they all benefit? I don't like the idea of vitamins added to the water, I have to freshen some dishes more than once a day. Your thoughts are appreciated! Also I want to use the little pic below as part of my signature but can't figure out how! Mavis--I want to display it where you have your picture on your posts. Thanks. Janet

Thats a really sweet picture & I hope you can get it into your signature. Click on "My Home" at the top of the page & edit your personal information to change your signature to add a link to the picture. Hopefully that should work.

As far as the vitamins, I don't feel it is necessary to give vitamins to birds that are already eating a healthy diet. I don't give vitamins to any of my birds.

I assume that Feather Up is a vitamin - one that promotes feather growth, but I've never used it, so I don't know.

I just looked online & found it at The Bird Care Company

Hmmmmm-a moulting supplement! The breeder I bought the finches from suggested I put it on their food during breeding season. The only thing I usually spinkle on is crushed egg shell and sometimes Kaytee dry formula.

Budgies can (& do) breed at any time of the year, if they have a good variety and lots of food and water available.
