Carl Jung, tho he also says that ultimately the only true interpretation of your dream is the one that you come up with yourself.

Correct! One Point for Wendy Tall One!

I was out of town for the weekend and haven't yet had a chance to get a newsletter out to announce the contest to give everyone a fair chance. I will do that today and will post the next question immediately following.

Okay, the newsletter is out and the article is up Here's a picture of the total package, and a 3 oz package of lavender body powder from Wise Ways Herbals has been added

Second question:

Fill in the blanks:

Correct! Wendy Tall One is in the lead with two points!

Maybe the tap was your subconscious reminding you to wake up to play the forum contest? Seriously - sounds like a lucid dream or possibly another sensation that you actually did feel felt like a tap

Congratulations - only 3 more questions to go! #3 will be posted this evening

Wendy Tall One has 2 points so far. The first person to answer 5 questions correctly for a total of 5 points wins

Question #3:

True or false:

When interpreting dreams, it's always best to analyze each dream separately and one at a time.

Good luck!

now now thats a trick question.
are we talking dreams months days minutes years apart?

but i would say true in this case. that way you cant mistakenly conglomerate all the dreams together to mean one thing. or rather I would contemplate them all separately then contrast and compare for similarities in theme ideas patterns etc.

Right again - and to clarify, the key word in the question is "always." If you really feel it's a trick question, we can drop that one and use another, but since you're the only one playing so far, I don't think it matters!

Okay, Wendy Tall One now has three points - and since the requirement for winning is to answer five questions correctly, it's not too late to jump in!

Next question:

Fill in the blank:

The _________ associated with the dream symbol determines the symbol's meaning.

Right again - feelings or emotions is the correct answer - and I knew you knew it

Four points for Wendy Tall One!

Next question:

True or False:

Symbols in dreams should always be taken literally.

Good luck!

Yes, it is true but if you keep a dream journal, you will tend to act on them without thinking much about it.

Hi DreaminDragon2. I took a quick peek at your dream journal as this is all strange and new to me. You sure do dream a lot. I have been told that we dream every night, we just do not remember all our dreams. Taking what I have learned from this site about dreaming, and looking back, I still feel I do not often dream. There have been a few strange dreams that made no sense at all throughout my life, and then the life-like dreams that make me wake up and I am either glad I woke up, or sad I woke up. To think that people actually dream that often is totally new to me, and I am going to have to think about this some more. The dreams I mentioned in the forum (dying, missing, tornadoes, etc.) have all been spread out over the period of several years, with a time span of 1 1/2 years from the date of a dream until it actually came true, to the baby snake dream when I saw the little critter 3 hours after I woke up. The cat went missing approximately one week after I dreamed one of mine died. I also have noticed in these dreams: the cat that disappeared was not the one I dreamed about, and the daughter that something happened to was not the one I dreamed about. The three dreams about my daughter were over the course of two weeks. Your dream journal must keep you busy! Thank you for sharing it.

Thanks firefly!

Well, people dream even if they don't remember it. From what I can understand - and it's a very horrible explanation and I may have misunderstood it - When people go to sleep, the brain hallucinates, thus dreaming. I don't know if it's because of a chemical that is released or something. I read this all from some article where they were trying to make these pills that eliminates sleep altogether. Problem was, people were hallucinating. I think dreams are necessary even if you don't remember any. Well, moving away from that topic since I know very little...

Dreams have been a very big part of my life. While kids at my age were just dealing with other things, I let my dreams influence me in a big way that annoyed my parents. I just had neverending nightmares while growing up that I remembered them every single day. Now, I don't have nightmares except once in a great long while but I believe that nightmares made me more... I don't know the term... 'skillful'?... in remembering dreams.

Sometimes I had dreams that would be at one place. There was this place where there were three basketball courts. You'd be at one court, then travel a bit to another court (sometimes crossing a street), then travel a bit (I believe there were these woods I had to pass through and I remember there were boards I had to step on because it was flooded) to reach another basketball court. Then, beyond that was this wooden wall. Beyond it was a swamp. In my dreams, I'd always talk to people when I was passing the courts and at the end, I'd always reach this wall to watch the swamp before I left to do other things or woke.

Well, one morning... I came downstairs and I just blubbered into my cereal bowl. My mother wanted to know why I was distraught. I told her about this place and I explained, "I can never go back there again!" Funny thing is, I didn't have any dreams that told me that I could never go back. I just somehow knew I could never go back and I never did.

My current dreams, I never return to the same place. Often times, I'll mention "I'm on the base in NY" but that never really is the "dream place" because it is a location I lived at at one point in time.

Do you believe you only remember dreams because they were 'traumatizing' or 'disturbing' in a way?

One thing that annoys me... I could remember a dream in its entirety and just when I roll over in bed and pick up the pen to write in the dream journal - the dream disappears and I just can't remember what happened.

Yes, sleep deprivation does cause hallucinations! Delta is the deepest, most restorative stage of sleep. Many of us fail to get there often enough. Lack of quality sleep can cause physical and mental health problems.

Some people do, but I don't believe that it's the "norm." People who only remember disturbing dreams usually fail to believe that our dreams are so valuable in understanding ourselves and our lives. People who understand this will remember all kinds of dreams, even the just plain silly ones. I had a doozy last night! but I do believe that it has meaning.

*nods* There is a transition in brain waves from sleep to wakefulness that causes a lapse. If you don't catch the dream, it's gone. This is why it's so important to at least lie there for a few minutes to remember your dream. Sometimes we can remember a dream smack in the middle of the day. I haven't found anything yet that explains that.

I'm so glad you joined this forum. Your participation is going to benefit many members! I'm also glad to see you, firefly. With dreams, it's always helpful to have several sources of input. We're always learning!

When I was in my 30's, several times I went to bed so exhausted I could not sleep. Just when I am starting to drift off, I would start hallucinating. First time, it was a neon blue helicopter circling overhead. About the size of a toy one. Another time, it was neon blue branches waving back and forth. Several other times it happened, always neon blue. Migraines, pollen allergies, and raising three children wore me out. It is different now, but the neon blue color was wild! With the waving branches, I freaked and jumped out of bed and got halfway down the hall and realized it was just fatigue, I turned on the light and got back in bed. My hubby did not understand. It was vry dark in the house that night, and to this day I sleep with the shutters open so I can see the moon, stars and any lights the neighbors have left on. I cannot handle a totally dark room.

Sometimes lack of sleep can also bring on lucid dreams. Lucid dreams usually happen toward the end of a sleep cycle but can sometimes occur at the beginning if you're that exhausted.

Sleep paralysis is believed to be caused by something in the brainwaves going kabooey as we try to fall asleep. I don't know whether researchers have connected it to lack of rest. They only gave it a name within the past ten years.

I can't sleep with any lights on at all. During bad periods of insomnia, I've actually had to cover up alarm clocks and mirrors. Even though it's dark, small glimmers of light can bounce off mirrors and disturb your sleep.

I read your articles the other day, and learned about sleep paralysis and the hag. That sounds scary, and I am glad that has never happened to me. Every time I went to New Orleans, I would get terrible migraines and nightmares. I finally refused to go to N.O. any more. This happened in San Francisco a couple of times also. My neurologist explained to me about the stage of sleep that nightmares occur in, and the relation to migraines; it made sense at the time but I have since forgotten, he has moved away, and my migraines are in the past. But the nightmares were so scary I was afraid I would wake up dead from fright. No vacation is worth a "migraine and a nightmare." Sounds like a good name for a horror flick.

Yes, it does! I've had "Headlights and Sunglasses" in mind for my book if I ever get it written I'll explain sometime......

The GOOD thing about nightmares is that they are more often triggered by stress and illness rather than being negative symbolism.

The hag isn't really that scary....but I like talking to spirit......
