I'm having a bit of a problem. I've been working my way through Raymond Buckland's the Complete Book of Witchcraft and have become stuck on the part about magikal names and how they should numerologically correspond with one's birth number. I've found a name that really rings true to me but doesn't correspond numerologically. Should I keep the name i've found or find a new one that matches up w/my birth number. i'm not quite sure what to do on this.

Do what seems right to YOU, not what seems right to Mr. Buckland. My magickal name is not numerologically correct with my birth number, but that isnt what is important to me, what is important is that the name fits me. Like I said, do what feels right to you! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

You should choose a name primarily because it feels right and says who you are. If it matches numererologically then thats great! If you are concerned because it dosent consider the spelling of the name. can you change a letter or two to make it hit that number?

What about adding a second name to the one you have chosen?

What number does it add up to? What are the correspondances for that number? Does it fit with where you are on your path?

There are a lot of ways that you can work the numbers into your magical name.

the numerology didn't really concern me until i read that particular section in the book, Fiona. I just was a bit unsure as to what to do as I feel like i'm starting from square one again after being out of Practice for some time.

I completely understand with reading something and getting thrown for a loop. Hence why I read many different books/articles to gain lots of perspectives in order to create my own. as well as having a few mentors/allies to bounce ideas off of.
Always follow what your heart/soul/gut/spirit/instinct tells you and then you cant go wrong.

Wendy is right. That is one thing we always caution students about. All books need to be taken with a grain of salt and really consider your feelings on what they say. You need to do what feels right for you.

If one doesn't take Numerology seriously then I guess this method of choosing a name for yourself doesn't hold much significance. However, for me it does hold a lot of significance.

Lady Valkyrie.... I am not just a female, I am a Lady. My husband calls me his Lady. Valkyrie comes from my love of the mythological Norse Valkyries. Also I have an affection for the motorcycle named Valkyrie.

I also came up with Lady Valkyrie as a magickal name because I am a Christian Wiccan/Kitchen Witch. This is how I came up with it.

1.) Find your birth number by adding the digits of your date of birth. e.g. such as my birthday is September 16, 1974 and my number is...

9.16.1974= 9+1+6+1+9+7+4=37

(Side note: 37 happens to be my favorite number. I have another screen name that I use on the internet which is audrey37rose. Audrey is my name. Rose is my favorite flower. Audrey Rose is a movie that stars Sir Anthony Hopkins that has always been one of my favorites. And 37 is my favorite number)

Bring that down to a single digit: 3+7=10....1+0=1

2.) Find the name number of the name you have chosen. This is done by equating all the letters of the alphabet with the first nine numbers:

L=3
A=1

Y=7
V=4

Therefore through numerology Lady Valkyrie matches my birth number perfectly.

hehehe... I just worked it all out for me (for fun) and they do not equal <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />. Oh well... my magickal name still fits me, and I dont think I would ever change it (considering that I also go by it in the mundane world)...
Birth Number= 6
Magickal name= 9

....although... I do like how that came out... <img src="/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

None of my magickal names correspond to any numerology, but they all really sound and feel like ME to me. I think that's what important.
