Rajneesh (Osho) has a good point and BTW I really like his writings - too bad all the outer stuff got in the way.
Well, yes, I do think we all lean toward a certain meditation style right for us. Personally, I favor moving meditation because I'm more of a kinesthetic learner, anyway.
But, back to the quote - I find that mantra or japa meditation, verbally and then mentally repeating a mantra had quite the opposite effect from what Osho describes.
In the early stages of my mantra practice (30 years ago) it preoccupied my mind enough so that I became aware of my conscious self beyond thought - the state of observer - which to me is vibrant and full of life and energy.
I think it is best to practice mantra repetition while sitting up - to stay awake - and precede it with a few moments of positive thinking and loving thoughts for at least one person beyond myself.
