I've just finished reading an intriguing story of a woman who feels that she was John Lennon's lover in a past life. After John was shot on December 9th, 1980, a housewife from British Columbia Canada named Jewelle St. James began to feel intense grief. Oddly enough, she wasn't even a fan of the Beatles. All You Need Is Love is her compelling story of a past life with John Lennon. I admit, I was skeptical when I first heard the title, but after reading her well-documented journey, her story is quite convincing.

Have any of you done past life work? How did you get into it? Why do you believe that we have multiple lives (if in fact you do)? How can we uncover them...and know for sure? Any experiences and synchronicities that you'd like to share? What about compelling books that you've read on the subject?

I haven't read any books on the subject, but, to my mind, the concept of reincarnation seems far more logical than the idea of Heaven and Hell. I think that we learn something new during each of our lives, and arrive at the beginning of a new life with a certain purpose to fulfill. Every new life is a logical continuation of our past lives. Having completed all that is required of us, we are freed from the rebirth cycle.
There's a Tarot spread that I've used several times to learn about my previous life and to help other people do the same. I wonder if you know it... Here's how it goes:

The layout is a bit complicated, I know... <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Here goes the reading:

S - the querent
1- the influence of the previous life on this life
2,3 - the issues/motives present in all reincarnations of the querent
4,5,6 - previous life circumstances and events
7 - the most important problem from the previous reincarnation
8 - ways of solving this problem in this life
9,10,11 - the querent's destiny, something that can't be escaped. Proper understanding of this will help the querent fulfill his/her mission in this life.
12 - the next reincarnation (most probably)

With the help of this spread I've found that in my previous life I had some psychic experience - a prophetic dream, a vision or some other sort of thing - that has influenced my outlook on life greatly and has put me on a journey of spiritual discovery. I've met a Master who had helped me greatly. But still, at the end of my life I was only at the beginning of this long way, although I have achieved some important results. So, I believe my major purpose in this life is to continue this search for truth and discover my hidden powers.

I haven't read much on this topic and am not even sure where I stand on it. But several years ago, I read a book which I found fascinating. It was called "Across Time and Death", by Jenny Cockell. Coincidentally, there was a piece about her on the tv show *20/20* around the same time I read it. Her writing style wasn't great but the story (apparently a documented true story!) was so compelling, that I was able to overlook that fact. It boggled the mind! I'd love to hear your impressions on this book if you ever get the chance to read it.

Hey everyone:),

I used to do past life readings quite a bit when I was working for an online psychic service. I began working with past lives when I started to become vividly aware of mine through my day and night dreams.

Most of the time, my past lives come to me in daydream visions when something crucial is going on with a particular person.

Also, I have a lot of epic dreams and I believe a good portion of them are past life scenes resurfacing to tell me about something going on in my present life.

I know this lifetime is deeply connected with maybe 2 past lives in Egypt and one in Brazil. In Egypt, I was a "disciple" of the Temple of Isis, one of her priestesses. In Brazil, I was a "disciple" of Candomble, deeply associated with Yemaja. It's hard to pinpoint how I came to know about these lives...I guess through life experiences and trying to work out things with particular people or with myself:).

I would really like to do some more "intellectual" study of past lives in the future to get a better understanding of why they "show up".

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good "workbook" of sorts?

Of my past lives I only have 2 impressions/ I have seen a scene of each, as real as a memory, so I am assuming that is what they are. Both were seen during the day, while awake, during conversations with or about a particular person.

In one I am in Egypt. But I am not Egyptian, I am either Greek I think, possibly Roman. The wife of a high up soldier and in the scene he is leaving for a battle/mission/patrol something like that.

In the 2nd I am a child about 5 and I am with my brother of the same or close to the same age. We are playing in a field. Its very Little House on the Prairie.

I have a strong feeling both companions are the same person. And I had both visions while close friends with the person I think it is.

It's strange, I'm not sure if I believe in past lives or not. My mother used to say it was cellular memory. Now is there such a thing as cellular memory ?

Susanna, you bring up a very interesting question: do we hold memories in our cells?

Is cellular memory a part of Jung's collective unconscious? Or something else?

Anyone want to share their own personal experience or theories as to past lives, cellular memory, etc?
