Hi Jean,

I have not started A World Apart. I am just back from a 3 day "What to do when you retire" workshop, I am retiring at the end of the year:) I'll start to read A World Apart today or sometime this weekend and post my thoughts on Monday.

All of Nora Roberts lead women have strong, testy personalities, and extremely sympathetic hearts. I suspect that those are her traits as well. I read that her first novel was published in the early 80's. I can't believe how prolific she is. queen

Hi Vannie,

I've only read the first chapter of A World Apart. At first I thought, "Oh it's going to be another story about war and battling evil." But then it was revealed that the other world Kadra was to visit was New York City. I think this will be interesting.

I'll read the next two chapters and check back for your thoughts.

Jean

Hmm, after making a snap judgement by thinking that I probably wouldn't like this story as much as the others because of the monsters involved, I've done a complete 360. What made the difference? Well, the totally adorable unknowing hero, Harper Doyle, of course. I just love him to pieces. He has so much more personality than the men in the first two stories. Kendra follows the form of the heroines within the trilogy by being strong and goal-oriented. I'm waiting to see her personality develope. So far she is pretty two-dimensional.

Meet you at Chapter 6!

Jean

P.S. I'm interested to hear more about your retirement, Vannie. Which projects will you continue, Bella-Online, Hot and Spicey? Tell me more!

Hello Jean,

I do apologize. My senior (I volunteer for a senior advocacy group) has not been well and I have been getting to her house at 6:30am to peek in on her, etc. before heading to work. After work I spend the rest of the evening with her until she goes to sleep 11ish. Totally exhausting - I wanted to get online but just could not. Alzheimers patients need incredible amounts of care. Her daughter is unwell but back in the picture as of yesterday. When I learned that I decided to take the day off to sleep, rest and take care of long ignored 'stuff'. Again huge apologies for staying away so long.

Anyway. I have started A World Apart and like you I do do like Harper Doyle. I am finding Kadra amusing. She was so taken with the elevator (she calls it a portal) She speaks to a woman and her son and mimics what Harper has told her. "The elevator," said Kadra politely. "Goes up and down." I can just see the woman's face when she says this (smiling) Yes, Kadra does appear 2 dimensional right now. Maybe because as she says she is "a physical creature", she has not had a chance to develop her 'other self' yet. I think she is terribly confused about her feelings toward Doyle as we see in chapt. 5

re: retirement. My retirement is from my full-time job. I work at a health sciences univ. and work in the VP's office for the managing director. We are counsel for the university. review and prepare contractss. Actually I will have more time for Bella and my other projects. Right now I often in my office on Sats and Suns.

Mmmm this is a very long post. BTW I visited Whats For Dinner again. It's wonderful. We will talk about that o.k.?

Vannie,

Yep, sometimes life just gets hectic! I'm a firm believer in taking time for yourself when you need it. So, no problem!

Well, Kadra endeared herself to me during the lovemaking scene when she agreed to kiss even though it was not allowed in her world. Up until now she has been so focused on her purpose and determined to stick to the rules. I also get a charge out of her child-like approach to life--the elevator scene you mention.

Knowing there will be a "Happily Everafter", I'm hoping Kadra will end up coming into Harper's world rather than the other way around. I think she would have much more fun discovering the wonders of New York City than Harper would have at adapting to the wildness of A'Dair.

Of course, I would love to talk with you more about What's For Dinner. Currently I'm looking for sites that use feature writers for article submission. But let's save that for e-mail or IM.

What shall we read next? How about a good old Whodunit?

Jean

Jean,

I totally agree with you about Kadra staying in Harper's world. She likes beer, sour cream and onion potato chips and ball games - she has to remain with Harper(LOL) Isn't her child's view wonderful? She calls the baseball players warriors.

It's interesting that as physical and focused Kadra is she respected Harper's request not to be carried through the city after he was wounded during the fight with Sorak. She could have just tossed him over ther shoulders and kept moving. Why do you think she listened to him - maybe she felt a 'woman' thing and understood male pride? In her world the woman are the warriors and I think the men are farmers, etc. My guess is that male/female roles are reversed there. Did she call him Harper of Doyle early on?? (smiling)

Whodunits are my favorite reads.

Vannie,

Hi! I took a part-time job and got wrapped up in training and so haven't been back for a while.

So we got our wish and Kadra decided to come to the world of Harper Doyle. Ah, I love a happy ending

Since I chose this book after you had suggested Nora Roberts, and we have agreed on a mystery, I'll name an author and you pick the book.

I've heard of Stephanie Kane but never read anything by her. How about it?

Not familiar with Stephanie Kane. So checked out info and she looks good. She has written two books Blind Spot and Quiet Time. Maybe we could start with her 1st Blind Spot. I have to tell you that both books sound a little grisly. (I don't mind, nothing is more grisly than JD Robb/Nora Roberts.

I really do enjoy legal thrillers. When we get the book we are going to read we can also start and post to a new topic.

A Little Fate's last story (A World Apart) ending was sweet and satisfying as I knew it would be

A new part time job?? How cool Will you be working everyday for a couple of hours or a few days a week for longer hours?

Vannie,

Hi! I'll go get Blind Spot in the next couple of days. I don't mind grisly if I'm reading it. Gory movies, however I can do without. eek

My job only takes me a couple of days a week. I drive around to stores and service the poster displays. It's fun and my territory here in Northern Arizona takes me through some beautiful country.

I'll let you know when I get the book.

Later,

Jean

Jean,

What a wonderful opportunity - short hours, see beautiful country and getting paid for it. You did good kiddo (LOL) Have you been tempted to buy while you are in the stores?

I will pick up Blind Spot this week. I have to send myself an e-mail to remember :-(
