Religions become corrupted when leaders are assigned to explain God's will to the people instead of showing them how to find this direction within themselves ~Celestine Prophecy (book)~
I strongly agree to this and so I hereby declare Christianity as a corrupt religion.
PROVE ME WRONG
I bet the moderator will most likely delete this thread as being questioned is something a christian cannot handle.
If it is true then being questioned is merely a bump on the road to the truth

Religions become corrupted when leaders are assigned to explain God's will to the people instead of showing them how to find this direction within themselves"
First of all welcome.... this is definatly the place for you to express your feelings and beliefs. You won't find me questioning or shooting darts at your opinions. I, too, feel that RELIGION, modern RELIGION, is corruptible. Man is fallible; especially when we try to expound the Word of God. I, myself, prefer to let God's Word stand all on it's own.
I also believe strongly that being Christian is defined by my relationship with Christ Jesus ALONE. I don't prescribe to the "I'm better than you are" attitude that comes from identifying with one sect of Christianity or another. There are enough "so-called" Christians who do that. No, to me, being a TRUE Christian is about the life changing relationship I have with Jesus Christ.
To quote Toby McKeenan, " When I think of the boldest leaders and thinkers of our world, I believe Jesus stood above them all. He changed everything, and, by sacrificing His life, He changed the way I look at my fellowman. He is the one reason I have a relationship with God. The more I learn about Him, the more I am drawn to Him and His ways. In a world that consists of fake lives and false promises, Jesus is authentic, and He died on the cross to prove it. Real faith in Jesus seems to make people uncomfortable. Even in the open minded artistic world, lyrics about faith in Jesus can be considered offensive. I guess that's what the world calls a "Freak" - someone who commits to something wholeheartedly, without apology or compromise." Excerpted from "Jesus Freaks Stories of those who stood for JESUS: The ultimate Jesus Freaks" by dc Talk and the Voice of the Martyrs
Feel free to come back and talk some more. Just as a last note, my personal relationship with Jesus is what defines me as a Christian. I'm not rich or have some kind of seminary training. I am a simple woman whose love for Christ leads her to share that love through writing here. Explore Bella Online and you'll find many different women sharing many different perspectives.

Religions become corrupted when leaders are assigned to explain God's will to the people instead of showing them how to find this direction within themselves True to a point. People are corruptable - so sometimes finding their own direction is corrupt too. We all need a guideline to follow-- for me it is the Bible And a plumb-line to measure how straight we walk.-- For me that is Jesus Christ.

Thank you for your comments, I am also aware there are diffrerent types of people who takes the religion at different levels of seriousness with different perspectives. We all need a guideline to follow -- for me it is the Bible
while that statement holds true I myself prefer to have anything and everything as a guidline. Just as we are taught in school when researching 'never have just one source of information' I seem to have applied that to life. The other day I heard that the world vision people (people helping the third world countries) wont help the people in need unless they convert to Christian. To me that is just funny (in an extremely patheticly sad way). Why should a missionary have to go convert others to christianity? Why can they not just help without asking for somehting in return?

I myself prefer to have anything and everything as a guidline. Anything and everything? It seems that would mean no guidline at all. Your guidline would be changing every 10 minutes.(or less) How many perceptions of right and wrong would you find in just one day?
PS. I don't want to sound argumentative. I'm just interested in the way you think.

I of Me Wow, I think my opinion on this matter exactly coincides with yours.
I was always outraged at how religous people call it FAITH, when in reality they are simply being narrow-minded.
I believe morals should come from within, not from what the church tells me I should do. Morals forced upon an adult individual won't stick the way morals that formed within one's consciousness after years of self-analysis do.
I feel the Bible was written so long ago a LOT of it has become irrelevant many times over. In ADDITION, even if that whole brouhaha with Jesus did take place, he was not the person who wrote the Bible, and the writer surely must have misinterpreted him a lot. Besides, interpreting the Bible is often left to religious leaders (such as preachers etc.), who ALSO misinterpret the Bible -- so by the time it gets to YOU, it's not reliable. Or at least not something that I would rely on to shape my morals. (Or I'd have to let my father get, and subsequently give away, 40 goats for me to get married, rather than blissfully living in sin).

Who was that guy inthe sixties who said, "...question authority..."? I think this has been the motto for alot of us coming of age during the early seventies. I know my mom taught me to look at all things from all angles.... I just needed to learn when to stop when I was in the right place...

Another thought,
As far as Jesus is concerned I never really had a clear perspective of Him as a person untill I began looking between the lines. I wish Jesus HAD written something in the Bible figurativly. I think in a way He did....I believe in the Holy Spirit as being a part of Him.
Also, the Bible as a whole IS a message for us today. It can be taken as a guide for not turning away from God.
just a few comments....

Anything and everything? It seems that would mean no guidline at all. Your guidline would be changing every 10 minutes.(or less) How many perceptions of right and wrong would you find in just one day? can you clarify what you mean, please? who says there is a right or wrong? maybe its only perpective, opinion, most effective, and most in-effective. PS. I don't want to sound argumentative. I'm just interested in the way you think. that's ok, it's only real for humans to want to explore (sadly some of them have suppressed this tendency) I was always outraged at how religous people call it FAITH, when in reality they are simply being narrow-minded. so true, Ice Queen. But if you think about it eveyone is narrow-minded to a certain extent. Ture Open mind seems to be no more than just a legend and extremely hard to obtain. and yes, I think this bible has been mistranslated by writers and preachers, that is why we can't really take them all too seriously I guess.

I simply would like to find a religious that is not founded on the premise that men are superior to women. When I say this to people, they say, "Oh, my church has a female minister" blah blah blah. That's not the point. The point is that the Bible is misogynistic. The point is that someone in these religions, certainly Western religion, needs to at least acknowledge that. Otherwise, i don't want to have ANYTHING to do with a structured religion. Thanks, but if I want to be brainwashed into low self-esteem, I'll at least join a cult where I can do drugs and have sex with the cult leader. At least I'll have some fun on my way down. And, I'm sorry, but I am just not drawn to any hokey religions that meet in the woods at midnight or anything. Honest to God, is it too much to ask to have a normal religion that doesn't teach hatred against women?
