When I was growing up Roman Catholic I always thought of Jesus being an only child of Mary and Joseph. I always wondered why they didn't have other children. They weren't married when Jesus was conceived, but he then did marry her, right?

In the latest Christian Living article it talks about Jesus (after being risen) being seen -

To His brother James..1 Corinthians 15:7

So he did have a brother? Or is Corinthians a book that some Christians believe is "real" and others do not?

I don't know the Catholic faith but I understand that they believe that Mary was always a virgin.

Protestants don't hold that belief. I believe she was a virgin until Jesus was born and then she and Joseph lived a normal married life.
The book of Matthew speaks of Jesus' siblings.
He had begun preaching in His hometown and the people knew Him so it was hard for them to believe that He could be the Christ.
Matthew 13:55, 56 Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren't all his sisters with us?..... So it looks to me like He was the oldest in a large family!
There are other differences in belief. I think the one thing Christians must agree on is that Jesus died to pay for sin and that He was resurrected and is now in Heaven at the right hand of God the Father.
I think we will sort out all the fine points when we see Him face to face. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

P.S...
About the marriage:
Hebrew marriages were arranged by the parents and contracts were negotiated. After this was accomplished, the individuals were considered married and were called husband and wife. However the woman continued to live with her parents and the man with his for one year. This waiting period was to demonstrate the faithfulness of the pledge of purity given concerning the bride. During that time the marriage could be annulled if she was found to be with child. After the year, the husband would go get the bride and in a processional march, lead his bride back to his home. Then they would begin to live as man and wife and consummate their marriage.
(Knowing this background helps explain the story of Christ's birth as well as some of Jesus' parables)
