he just asked me if it was working for me
I realize that "How's that working for you?" has become almost a catch phrase for Dr. Phil; but as someone who has (almost an entire family) going through counseling - I have found various versions of that question actually asked!
I suffer from clinical depression, my oldest son is Asperger's (that's similar to high-functioning autism for those that aren't familiar), my middle child (daughter) is ADD, and then I've got an
extremely active and bright 3 yr old son to round things off! Thankfully I've got a very supportive husband, too. But my oldest 2 and myself all have our own counselors, and my son and I see psychiatrists.
But sometimes as parents we get stuck in ruts and don't even realize it and it takes someone pointing it out to us (of course most of us don't go as far as the people on his prime time special ).
They don't put the "normal" problems on TV - like you pointed out, Letitia, those aren't sensational enough for TV. They want the really stubborn and *blind* ones that haven't been able to get it on their own. Because otherwise, Dr. Phil wouldn't have anything to point out to anyone.
