What's your all-time favorite picture book for children?

I think I'll have to go with 500 Words To Grow On By Harry McNaught (Random House; 1973; ISBN: 039482668X)

The first book that comes to mind is a 'golden book' from my childhood 50 years ago - Little Red Riding Hood <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

One of my favorites was a book called "Harry, the dirty dog." I loved that book and it was interesting to see my children bring it home from the school library <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I don't have one from my childhood but I love the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear or Polar Bear, Polar Bear.

My son was able to recite both books by the time he was three. That began his journey to loving books. I only hope it continues.

Oh, gosh, I have so many it's hard to choose just one all time favorite. My new favorite is Grandaddy & Jannetta. I'll have to go find it for the author. From my childhood, I remember Katy No Pockets by HA Rey. I was so excited to see it in our 2nd grade basal a few years ago! Also, all the Amelia Bedelia books by Peggy Parish.

Oh dear, I'm going to have to start previewing my posts. I left out my all time favorite author! I love all of Jan Brett's books. Plus, she has a great web site. Check out www.janbrett.com. She has coloring pictures from her books & lots of projects to do with kids, all free.
