Eric,
No, I would not surrender my passport without a damn good fight. And, since I am over 62 glorious years of age, I have seen a number of administrations and leadership philosophies come and go.
However, I will firmly state that this land we call home has no counterpart in this world then and now and in the forseable future.
I would gladly give my life for its protection and the protection of its liberties.
These liberties allow the warmongers as well as the peacemakers opportunities to flex their respective muscles and we try out their britches for four years.
If we like the fit we try it out another four years. But, if not, we change our pants and go in another direction.
In my travels I have seen countless human beings without hope in their eyes or peace in their hearts. The look they portray is: "There, for the grace of my god could be I".
No question that this world is full of wonder and joy. But, in my travel, this is most comfortable with something you are born with and willing to fight for.
