Jaga,

Be careful about Frank's toasts - when they are translated, they are dangerous - LOL.

Hi Jaga,
I have no intention to leave the Forum.. I make a point to check it out every day.. As you know ,I am not interested in politics so I do not respond.. But there is always something interesting that comes up that interests me,
As for a Polish dictionary, I do not use one.. I speak Polish the way that I was taught growing up.. I know that there are words that I make mistakes on, but I spell them the way that they sound.. And there are those words that I really do not know the meaning of, but with the help of other words, as a rule I can figure the sentence out.
As for my birthday posts.. I was told by Mr Cybulski that my interpatation was not exactly right You have to remember that these toasts were given by a bunch of older men while they were drinking..I now know that some of the words were.( SLOWA CO MOJA MATKA MIE NIGDY NAUCZYLA )
NANCY ( These were words that my Mother never taught me )
Nancy, Dee and I were curious about another saying that was used in here. I checked out the meaning from some of my other Polish contacts, and found out that they were not very nice words
Jaga, Look at the interest that Nancy's idea raised. We had a lot of fun with it, but we need a teacher.. Think about it.. I know that it is not fair to the Non Polish speaking members.. But I feel like this Forum is big enough to support one thread for this.
Jaga, I will look up the urls for my Polish phrases.. Feel free to anything that I put in here.. I find it on the internet

FRank,

thanks, I am glad to hear from you. I do not want you to ovewhelm from our politics posts, please feel free to post anything of your liking! You know, I am right now so tired of politics that I stopped watching it.

The problem which I have with teaching Polish is mainly the pronunciation. I do not know exactly how to write down the word for its pronunciation. I need to look at Nancy's post. She is a blessing for this forum!

Jaga,
I understand what you are saying.. For those of us ( NANCY ) that have not been ewxposed to the saound of the word.. It will be hard.. But Nancy is a very bright person.. She will learn. Dee, and Basia are just like me.. We were taught this in Polish schools as kids. Buyt now we have to refresh our memories.
Nancy, Dee.. I have aN IDEA!
Lets pick a word each day and form it into a sentence.. I will go first. WORK, (PRACA) (Robota)
To jak ja dzisaj przyslem od moja praca. moja kolacia dla mie czekala

( Today when I came from from work , my supper was waiting for me )

Come on Basia,, I know you are reading this.. JOIN IN

Pan Cybulski...

Thank you very much for correcting my answer to Frank a couple days ago. I will have to study much more, as I certainly "murdered" the Polish!
It's a miracle you were able to even understand what I wrote. Sorry...will have to keep trying.

Just like Frank mentioned above here, about using a certain word in a sentence, perhaps you could be our Polish teacher and correct our attempts????

Frank... So now YOU have an IDEA!!

But that was quite a long sentence you wrote, and I am stumped with just thinking of how to come up with one in Polish, so will keep it short!

Dzisiaj moja praca jest pisac tutaj po Polsku!!
(Today my work is to write here in Polish!!)

Jaga, you wrote to Frank earlier:

...The problem which I have with teaching Polish is mainly the pronunciation. I do not know exactly how to write down the word for its pronunciation...

Perhaps we could use the Berlitz "Polish Phrase Book and Dictionary" which I found very helpful when I was in Poland... it gives the most common, basic words, phrases, conversation, etc.
in Polish/English with very good guidance in pronouncing them.

Example:
I don't speak ...much..... Polish.
Nie.....mowie... dobrze... po polsku.
(n'yeh... moovyeh.. dobzheh.. po polskoo.)

Of course, hearing the words spoken are also important, and a basic CD-rom on beginning Polish pronounciation would also help. I have the Selectsoft Language Systems CD on "Polish - Speak and Learn" for essential words and phrases for beginners, and the pronounciation is very clear and concise, and basically simple.

Dee,
It was not too long ago that my Polish was limited to your's.. But I stuck to it, and now I can speak it with ease. Thanks to the internet..
Do not feel to concerned about your spelling..The people in Poland understand what we mean. Like I said before,We would be in big trouble in Poland .. They talk so fast. I cant remember my parents talking that fast..Dee, I understood every word that you wrote..Sure, Blazej saw things that we do not see. But even he,when he speaks English, he twists the words in translation.. If only we were lucky enough to speak Polish as well as he does English
My word for today ( Attempt ) ( try )

To ja dzisaj zprubujem pisac po polski jedzyk
( Today, Im am going to try to write in the Polish language ) HA HA No dictionary

I recall that as a kid in school.. The Nun used this method.. We were made to go to the black board.. She would say a word, and we had to put it in form of a sentence.
My biggest problem is my eyes.. When I type and hit two keys, I do not see my mistake.. It makes mew feel stupid ( Old age ) ( Stary Dziadek ) But I do not let it bother me.
We learn from our mistakes.
