When you would travel from Cracovia Hotel to your home town - was it anywhere near Joslo......we are heading to Frysztak, near Joslo, to try and find family.....and I think I recogonized the name of your home town. Rze......something like that. Did you do this in a day, and then return to Krakow at night with the rent a car.....how was the parking at Cracovia.

NOT TO BAD DOWN HERE.....CLEAN UP MOSTLY.....WE WERE VERY VERY BLESSED TO GET HIT WITH 90 AND NOT 145..............NEXT TIME ANYONE SAYS A CATEGORY 2 OR 3 IS HEADED WITHIN 50 MILES OF ME.....I'M OUTTA HERE!

Trip still on for Poland and getting all the reservations and stuff like that finalized. Husband has worked so hard on this trip....really has done his homework and has things in order and planned...........will be a challenge, but so intersting. And best of all, we were able to get finalized....his grandparents in Frysztak and mine in Kielce region. Interesting that both couples came from their own respective areas within say 25 miles of each other. Trick now, is how we fit it all in!!

I completely forgot that you live also in Florida. I was thinking that you may already be in Poland. I felt a bit bad because I did not check with you before your departure.

I just send you an e=mail about Warsaw. Where do you stay in Krakow? is it Hotel Cracovia?

For those who might know:

1. Is it cheaper (better) to purchase one time use Kodak type cameras in Poland...Warsaw or Krakow - and have the film developed in 24 hour service in Warsaw before leaving.

I am told, not a good idea to carry the camera's back to the states.........pictures ruined by new technology scanning devices.........

Do I buy cameras here - take pictures and have developed there...........or do the whole nine yards.......purchase of one time cameras, and developing there.

2. When we get to Warsaw and Krakow....we want to almost immediately take a half day City Bus Tour to become familiar with the "lay out of the land" and wondered if anyone has good reliable English speaking City Bus Tour - Company.

3. In Krakov.....looking at taking a private mini bus tour to Auschwitz/Berken....one day....and also Wadowice and Kral the next. Any leads on good mini bus companies.

Sent out all letters to hotels last night for confirmation on vouchers - JUST TO BE SAFE - and wouldn't you know it - Kaz Dln does not have us on the file or even have rooms available......

As Gilda Radner always use to say (with a Jewish accent)...."It's always something!"

I just sent you an email about driving to Jaslo and Rzeszow. I also went to Frysztak for family records. I would not plan to drive roundtrip in one day from Krakow!

I think many people are planning trips to Poland in September, and I want to hear all about them!

the one day trip to Auschwitz and back is a good idea. Cracovia Hotel organizes the one-day trips to Auschwitz, half day trips to Wieliczka (salt mine). As for the city tour around Krakow - I would rather suggest walking tour. Krakow is easier to walk than to drive around.

Trying to decide on taking a small hand held tape recorder, similar to the kind used in college lecture classes - to journal on - vs - writing which get's lengthy and often you get caught up in moving around and forgetting to journal your last ideas..............

Jaga....thanks for the imput - will take the day trip to Auschwitz and also probably Wadowice if they offer as well.

instead of Wadowice I would advice Czestochova, but this is up to you. Record player - good thing. try Wieliczka - beautful!!! Make sure nobody will robe you. Never have too much money on you.
When you busy recording, doing pictures and you look like an American you are an easy target

Wadowice tied into Krakov...

Czestochowa....we will be there a full two days.....after Bilsko Biala - to Czest to Wroclow to Pozan to Torun each two days each..........going to take it all in, at a comfortable pace.....

Will not be taking too many pictures like tourists do....will opt to buy pictures in gift shops and purchase the books.....and post cards...any pictures will be one of us in the pic or two of us.....

As far as recording.....will do this in the car or in the hotel.....not really in public.

The robbery "thing" is an issue and we will just have to wait and see what that "feels like." Being born and raised in inner city Detroit...you sort of get a handle on "fear and pressure of the elements around you" - I'm not saying nothing happens in Detroit - but to have survived Detroit with all the gun shots and killing going on around you........you sort of look to the "eyes" of everyone around you.....you sense if your being look at as a touch.

I guess the only answer to the "not too much money on you" is to put it in a safe at hotel....and I wonder then if it's safe!!
