We just adopted a 4-year old Newfoundland -- she's is gorgeous and sweet as can be, but she has a fondness of boxes (18 oz. boxes) of Special K cereal! Twice in a week she has picked up a full and sealed box from the lower shelf (bad place, DH!), taken it upstairs, ripped it open, including the cellophane bag, and helped herself to a few servings! Today when I got home, she had hidden the rest of the box under a pillow on the bed...
She definitely thinks she's a person and not a dog. Maybe she is!

And an update on Coco's weird eating habits: she has added a 5-lb. bag of flour, which she carried unopened up to our bedroom, opened it, and left it all over, but put the bag in the bed (again). My husband was terrified to get home and see her with white crusty stuff all over her mouth -- thinking she was really sick -- then he found the flour trail!
Junebug - our Lab - was sneezing from the flour.
OK - everything's going UP HIGH.

My dog eats blackberries off the bush! It is so funny how gingerly she picks them so as not to get stuck!
She also will jump up and pull a pear off of our small tree! So funny watching her have tug of war with a pear tree! She takes a bite and then plays with them like it was a ball. TOO FUNNY!

My old dog used to love a bit of salad. That's true that is.

A purple sock. It came out the other end shaped like- well you can imagine perfectly well what shape it was.
He does pinch foil wrappers too- they make clearing up the garden a sparkly experience. Oh yes and balloons. A rubber glove. And a condom

This thread is amusing me greatly.
My parents have a beagle/bassett mix named Taffy, and several years ago, she got into my stepdad's bag of Tootsie Pops. I saw her laying on the floor, wrapper discarded next to her, with the stick between her two front paws, licking it like a person would lick it.
Hilarious.
So I asked, "Hey Taffy, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?"
She never did answer.
But that is, by no means, the weirdest thing she has ever eaten. She has eaten some disgusting things.

Thank goodness she was okay... My dog ate a paper plate with brownies and saran wrap. The whole darn thing and it wasn't a small plate either. I was scared the plastic could have caused some serious issues but she was fine. She will eat ANYTHING.

That is called cophagia (I'm not sure of the spelling), and I had a dog that did that - and another one that preferred to peruse the cat litter box for his "treats". When they do that they are looking for something that is not in their diet - and they're also just plain weird! There are pills you can buy to feed to keep him from eating his own, if that is a problem. Otherwise, just keep scolding him when he tries to do it while you are taking your walks.
