I am going through FFVII for the tenth time just because I hadn't played it in a while. I am right before Midgar for the last time before it goes to disc three. I have rescued all of the huge materia, so I am able to get a master materia by mastering all of the subordinate materia in the game. Does anyone see an advantage to this? It seems to me that I would waste a lot of time mastering all of them. For example, if i was to master every summon materia, I could get the master summon, but is this really an advantage? Or is it really just a waste of time?
Also, does anyone know any tips on slowing down the handicap slots in the battle arena? The specail battle is killing me because of all the 1/2 HP I keep getting.

ok, obtaining Master Materia means that you have access to every little piece of materia ever possible to have of that colour, AND there are no set backs in stats.
you know how the subordinate Materia will raise and lower stats, well Master Materia doesn't do that.
It's good having access to all the spells and summons too. That way you can fill the rest of your slots up with Counter Attack Materias, which make battles (especially the final three) end a LOT quicker

oh, no i dont know if you can slow down the reels in the Battle Arena, I don't think its possible.

ok, so you're saying it is worth the time? also, by having 2 or 3 counter attack materias, will that allow you to do 2 or 3 counter attacks, or will it still be just one?

it is worth it. Because you will have more slots that you can put Pink Materia in.
If you have 8 Counter Attack Materia equiped to one character then when that character is struck physically they will counter attack 8 times.
very useful against Jenova Syth and Blizzaro Seph, since they attack you once and you kill them in return.

No probs, its the only FF where counter attack is actually useful since you can do it heaps.
I know this is off topic but FF9 has the best Auto-Regen, it's like you are immortal

Barely played 9. 7, part of 8, 10 and 10-2. With the exception of 8, I've pretty much know the rest of them by heart. But I'm getting old, my memory ain't what it was a few years ago.
