Lisa, here in The Netherlands my neighbors on both sides grocery shop every day. Their refrigerators are only 27 inches high and either slip under the counter or have a microwave sitting on top of them.
I am a completely spoiled American abroad and have 2 American style refrigerators in my kitchen - for the freezer space. I shop once or twice a week on my bike.
