Loaches laying on their side is a normal loach behavior. I always think he is pretty happy when I catch him doing it. I hadn't seen him doing it for a while and then I built him a cave to hide in and that is where I can see him doing this. He is about 2 years old now and I have read that they can live 10 years. I would love to have some more.
