There is a lot of bad history out there. Xtains throughout the past have tried to rewrite events in order to glorify god belief. Since the church controlled so much, and books were rare, nonbelievers were few and religion was the fabric of society. Atheism was a young concept. Deism was the closest acceptable way to separate a god from everyday life. Regardless of their personalities the forefathers achieved a great thing - the first largely secular republic in the western world. Today, me and others that think as I do can live without fear of being tortured or burned to death in the name of religion. There is more work to do.
