I thought I could read just about any set of crochet instructions, but I have found something new to me.

Here is the part I don't understand (see part in CAPS).

With Royal, ch 39. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and sc in ea ch across, ch 1, turn. COMPLETE CHART. Fasten off. With Royal, work 1 rnd dc around block the same as for striped block. Weave in yarn ends.

The instructions refer to a chart that I have downloaded. It is blue and white. The white is a star. How do I complete the chart's pattern? Do I just do a sc for every stitch be it blue or white? If further info is needed in order to answer my question, I found the instructions at www.michaels.com/. The pattern is called Stars & Stripes Afghan.

Thanks,
Nicole

Hi ya!
I do believe that every block on the chart represents a single crochet.
Yes, you are right.
Nice pattern! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

So, I have to change colors quite often. It seems rather cumbersome. I thought there might be a way around it that I was missing. Thanks for the response.

Just my Idea ! :rolling:
I use empty Plastic Soda Bottles and put my yarn into a slit in the side of the bottle and draw the yarn up through the hole at the top of the bottle. No tangles when using several colored yarns. I Knit and this helps with making Ear of Corn and other patterns.
I don't have to use the bobbins to wind the yarn on to.
I use the yarn from the center of the skein, so when it gets to the end of the skein , NO yarn flopping around and tangling.
Just Pop Bottles flopping around !! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

amoonsinger ! I pull from the center since the yarn would have to be pulled harder from the outside of the skein (in the bottle ) and there is no room for the skein to flop around.
I have a large sewing tote I use.
And the Soda Bottles come in different sizes as do yarn skeins.
I have also used Plastic Zip bags to keep yarns seperate. They work just like the bottles, when I want to travel and take my Knitting and Crocheting.
I have had the center come out tangled at times , but that is just a little pull and unwind.
Thanks for sharing your idea !!!

My hubby "invented" a sort of 'lazy susan' for when i'm working with more than one color. he took a rectangular piece of plywood, and drilled 4 holes just deep enough to accomodate a dowl that is about 10 inches long, and 1/4 inch wide. He wood glued the dowls into the holes and put wheels on the bottom of the board. i place my skeins up right on the dowls, and when its time to turn my work, i turn the lazy susan with it. keeps my skeins from getting tangled up.
