Director/actress Penny Marshall died yesterday at the age of 75. The first half of her career was defined by her role as Laverne in the television sitcom "Laverne & Shirley". Marshall then turned to directing. Her hits include the Tom Hanks-starrer "Big" and "A League of Their Own". My favorite Penny Marshall film is the drama "Awakenings", with two fantastic (and realistic) performances from Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. Marshall's last film is the documentary "Rodman". Controversial basketball star Dennis Rodman specifically requested Marshall as the director of this bio-pic. Currently in post-production, "Rodman" is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2019.
