I failed my diagnostic grammar test in college, and the teacher didn't want me in her Comp 1 class. How could I write and not know grammar beyond nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs? The answer is that I am a reader who reads at least a book a week. Why does that matter when it comes to writing?

I credit my reading with my extensive vocabulary. While I tailor my speaking vocab to my activity of the moment, those words are there, if and when I need them.
