While I love movie nights with the family, my daughter often complains that I never tell the when I go to the movie theater.
In the past couple of years I've gone with friends who end up talking during the movie. It's quite distracting. I don't mind going with the kids, but sometimes it's just my escape.
Something about paying $10.50 to watch a movie uninterrupted.
Since it has sparked somewhat of a funny debate in my household, I thought I'd ask...
Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?

It depends on the company. I have had friends who will sit through a movie with me without commenting and we can have a great time. Other friends have loved to talk and although I loved their company, talking was a real distraction. I have, also, gone alone and really enjoyed the movie but missed having someone to discuss it with afterwards.

True, it's nice to have someone to discuss the movies with.
One time, however, I went with a friend. First she had to have popcorn, so we were late getting into the movie. Then she proceed to drop the popcorn and it spilled. Unfortunately we were seated in the front row between the back set of seats and the front rows so everyone who came into the theater had to walk on the popcorn. Then she talked the entire movie.
When I went with a friend, he was too busy trying to hold my hand, asking me if I was OK, was I cold, did I need anything...LOL
The kids are usually pretty good, they are 17 and 22 now so it's even better. :-)

LOL...nice he cared, but it would sort of ruin the movie. And the popcorn would have driven me crazy. Crunch, crunch.

Alone and with company can both be good for me, provided the company doesn't talk through the movie. I don't mind the occasional whispered comment through the previews. What's funny is that I also wouldn't mind snuggling up to my husband (with no talking of course) through the movie, but he's so paranoid about distractions that he will put the armrest down between us and lean the other way just so I don't try anything!

Sandra, It was very distracting :-) both the crunching and the caring!
Ro, that's funny! When I was married, I didn't mind going with my husband too much. He was an avid movie-goer as well, but he usually fell asleep.

It's pretty funny. He's very serious about having the complete movie experience with no distractions. I always tease him about it. And going to sleep in a movie -- I have almost done this myself a couple of times, usually in foreign movies with subtitles, not much action, and a lot of dialog!
