It's amazing - I had never heard of these problems until after my daughter was born. My daughter teaches special ed children. I wonder why this has become so prevalent.

It has become much more prevalent. Some believe it is due to the vaccines children receive when they are babies, but that is a huge debate. Regardless of why, autism is now diagnosed in 1 in 88 children and some research says 1 in every 50 children. Perhaps like many other diagnosis, long ago, it just didn't have a name and Asperger's Syndrome is also under the autism umbrella, but with differing symptoms.

Thanks Angie. 30 or so years ago, I hadn't heard of autism and Asperger's either. I wonder if it was just that they lumped all symptoms together under mental illness or some other term.

And thanks, Gloria Doty for responding and for your book that paints a realistic personal picture.

I think it could be all the preservatives in the food we eat.

I have heard of the theories of both vaccines and preservatives causing problems. But then there are so many children who don't develop problems. Maybe it's the ones with a predisposition or who are more sensitive.

Anyway, great book. It gives a personal account, telling not how to fix it but how to live with it.

Thank you for your kind words. I agree with you that there are lots of questions still unanswered about vaccines. The information seems to change weekly with strong opinions on both sides. You are also correct in your assessment of the book. It is a real-life look at every day life. Thank you again for your comment.
