November in Germany is a period known as Stillen Tagen, Quiet Days, because it is filled with anniversaries that deal with death, time and eternity.

On the second last Sunday before Advent it is Volkstrauertag, commemorating worldwide victims of violence and tyranny. Past present, military or civilian, those who have died and those left to mourn.
