Reports at the moment are saying August, and that the extended DVD will have 43 minutes of extra footage.

so, far it seems like the extended may be out at that time. they're only down to editing the last movie and aren't as rushed for time like they were during post-production of TTT and the DVD release of FotR.
Peter Jackson has said that we will get a lot more of Treebeard and the Ents in the extended cut, stuff like the drinking of the Ent wash, etc....

The OFFICIAL release dates for TTT DVD are out:
regular VHS/DVD release in August with preview of extended TTT and ROTK
extended VHS/DVD release in November
this is the same schedule used for FOTR

I love these movies. I cried so much during the third that when I went to the bathroom after watching the movie my face was red and swollened so much that only a little crack was left for my eyes to see. The next morning I had a big headache and my face was a little swollened again and my eyes too but there was more than a crack for me to see. I haven't seen any of them for a while, that movie was playing not tgoo long ago but it was on a channel that censor so I did not watched it. When I'll start my Blueray collection that trilogy will sure be part of it (theres probably a special box set of it). I can't wait for The Hobbit to play on television but I have to admit that the trailers and commercials of it did not excite me at all, the three Lord of the Rings trailers and commercials did.
