I loved summer break with my kids. Now that they are grown, we still have adventures. Last summer we took a short road trip to Texas. This year, we will be doing things like painting and lowering the brush pile. The rabbits won't be happy with the disappearance of the brush pile, but I am sure that they neighbors won't object!

Don't let your kids' academic skills fade away in the summer. Work on reading and math. Watch videos with historic or scientific interest. Here is a book that tells how to present academic subjects in an interesting and playful way: AD/HD Homework Challenges Transformed Review

Kids with ADD who have a schedule to follow are generally happier an more able to function at a high level. A schedule makes things happen at a predictable time, so the stress of wondering what is coming next is alleviated.

A tiny bit of vegging out is ok for kids with ADD. However, when their days are completely unstructured, it doesn't help them. Find out how to keep a good balance.

Haha, do they make their own fun...and messes if we aren't careful. My youngest two are autistic and creative and can't be left to their own devices. School is out end of next week and although the youngest will have education support for the beginning of summer for half days M-Th, I know now is the time to make a plan for both of them.
Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to put together a calendar and have a short list of rainy day activities just in case.

You are so right, Vi. If we don't have things for them to do, they do what they want to do. That's seldom what we want!

Find chores that need to be done and that kids can do. Schedule them into the day. Children take pride in doing genuine work.
