Awww England.

Back in my island (Jamaica, West Indies) I attended a private Catholic school that was run by the English convent. I remember not appreciating the culture back then, but now at age 53, living in the USA since age 16 - I am so GLAD I did get a chance to be exposed to the English nuns.

And YES, they were "strict"...

Angela my mother used to teach in a school run by Irish nuns.

Do you think the strictness helped you? Some children seem to thrive on boundaries, others rebel...

I'd find it really inerestsing to know more about what you think the English nuns gave you that was unique.

Hi Asha:

Thanks for asking.

Back then, I HATED the whole system.

Now at age 53, I wish I had paid attention to my studies as I sure could use the Latin, Spanish & French that I had to do. I find that in the USA where I now live - and even back in my island (Jamaica, West Indies) - kids have too much control over that they take in schools.

Now we wonder why so many countries are being forced into importing skilled folks and get upset and yell "outsourcing"...

Bottom line, we need more structure back into our education system or we are going to continue with this recession and will not have any locals to replace the aging population.

Hope this helps - and ask away if you have any other questions. Love talking with you!

I too, was completely educated by the Presentation Sisters in Ireland. They were a wonderful group of women, knowledgeable, learned and STRICT. It did not do me any harm. In fact most days I refer to something I learned with them. They pre-dated state education in Ireland so we have a lot to be thankful to them for especially their focus on educating women

Elizabeth where do you live now? You say you learned from the sisters - what to you are the most important things you learned from them?
