Sabira what a beautiful article. I just used you link to watch Hapo Zamani. I saw a performance with life and beauty, depth, passion and rhythm.
I love the way you say "our songs can tune people" - what an incredible description for how music reaches people on so many different levels. I remember hearing a radio interview with
Bethan Myfanwy Hughes, a Welsh harpist specialising in harp therapy who has been called an Angel by armed forces in the US and UK due to the healing work she has done with injured soldiers. She talked of the harp being able to reach people on more levels/vibrations/frequencies than any other instrument.
Your comments about each performance being different remind me of a Reader Response Theory - the idea being that every time a reader reads a book they will have a different and unique experience, for each time they are bringing where they are at that moment to the reading and this will always be unique.
I really enjoyed your article Sabira - personal yet universal.
