Advocates for inclusive education, mainstream academic opportunities and support in regular classrooms find that socialization and lifelong friendships are wonderful side benefits to inclusion for students with developmental disabilities. Special education classrooms are not the cure for loneliness or all students would be fighting to find a place there.
As I mentioned in my other post, inclusion should be determined on a case-by-case basis. I have witnessed complete horror scenes involving SN students in mainstream classrooms. But also, I have seen pure beauty and magic happen, too.
