There is a piece of German farming folklore which maintains, "the call of a cuckoo is the first sign of spring", but that can only work for those who do not have a cuckoo clock in the home.

The Cuckoo Clock and Black Forest Gateau are both from the south west corner of Baden Wuerttemberg, one of the most economically successful, diverse and modern, of Germany's sixteen Laender, and a fascinating mixture of tradition, stunning landscapes, history, health resorts and the German Clock Route, the Deutsche Uhrenstrasse.

Francine what a fascinating article. I find particularly interesting the timescales you give for how long it took to make clocks as industrialistation/mechanisation prevailed.

Glad you enjoyed the article Asha and, after watching the work of the one remaining clock maker who makes everything himself, it is so easy to understand why everything took so long originally, and also how and why they gradually developed another system.

There is a fascinating museum which amongst other things has examples of all the styles through the ages, and every time I have visited it was full, seems we are not the only ones who find something like that interesting.

While the Clock Route could also be a detour for you when you take the Romantic Road down to the next Passion Play, there is just so much to see and do, and it is also beautiful but in a very different way from Oberammergau in Bavaria.

The Clock Road is interesting isn't it Asha, and it passes through such super scenery too.

Germany has many of these Routes, which are not only aimed at tourists because Germans enjoy them also, but nevertheless for visitors and the simply curious it certainly takes away a lot of the hard work when trying to plan a holiday.
