I was having different types of problems regarding my tomato plants. One of these are house flies and beetles. Without knowing the advantages of basil I planted it in a pot besides my tomato plants. They grew and the pests were gone. Is it for basil? Does any one have any experience similar to me? Sarina _______________________ Everyday I touch plant and flowers, it's a therapy to me.

By the way do you have any Idea to get rid of pests in an organic way? I hate to use chemicals. Rather, I'll go for natural remedy.

Basil and tomatoes are good companion plants and basil does help protect the tomatoes from pests. My basil went crazy this year in Texas. It's been so hot. In Oregon I never had much luck with it as the weather was cooler.

You can use safer soap products to kill insects naturally in the garden. They make one for houseplants, veggies, roses, etc.

One thing you can do too is plant lots of flowers, like marigolds, in among veggies. They attract the good bugs, which eat the bad bugs.

I have used cold coffee on some of my plants, like cabbage and cauliflower, and it worked well on those caterpillers. I also used cayenne pepper in water and squirted it on plants.
