BellaOnline Forums Sports Bowling Breakpoint Theory

Naturally, when I practice, I have no problem carrying and shoot really terrific scores. It is difficult to correct mistakes and/or errors when you "don�t make any." My personal coach and I have come up with two things for me to work on: 1) make sure I am hitting the proper breakpoint; and, 2) make sure I am using proper ball speed for the conditions I will be working on the "Breakpoint Theory," during the coming week.

Know Your Breakpoints

1st Night Testing The Theory --- 279/655 series. A little bit of trouble in the first game aiming so far down the lane and finding the range. 2nd game was the 279 all 12 balls in the pocket, 6th frame was 10-pin tap. 3rd game the lanes changed radically - made a 5 board move to the left and target 2 boards left; but kept going into the nose. After 3 big splits (two 4-6-7 and one 4-10) moved my target 4 boards right and punched out back 4 strikes solid.

Resolve to practice tomorrow night after my coaching sessions and while my girlfriend bowls in her league for her first night. Open lanes so no excuse not to. Next league is the Senior Classic Scratch Trio Wednesday. Keep you posted.

Wednesday Senior Men's Scratch League: (4-game league):
188 - 201 - 236 - 204 = 829
Left lane not hooking and right lane hooking. Took me a while to figure out the number of boards difference I had to play. My fault. When I hit the BP, the carry was there.

Thursday, Senior Bell Men's Classic:
267 - 215 - 236 = 718
Was hitting the BP area fairly well during the first game, could not figure out the transition as 2 big splits (Big 4 and 4-6-7-10) but finished with back 5 for the 215, made a five board move in the 3rd game and went back 6 for the 236.
I think this is going to work well once I get used to the adjustments necessary. Keep you posted.

BTW ... my ball is a 14-1/2 lbs Ebonite Total NV that I won in a bowling ball raffle around 3 or 4 years ago. Pin is located right above and between the two finger holes and I have a relaxed fingertip because of my arthritis.

Since going to the theory, have averaged, 8719 / 30 games = 223.96.

I believe the theory will work so this is my last report. Just need to refine it and I feel it will get me to the 210 - 215 by the end of the season. I am already above 210 on Thursday nights and Mondays and Wednesdays are on the rise.
