Freshly sliced. Deli meat that is prepackaged is smashed. Also, despite the preservatives in the deli meat, cut portions deteriorate more quickly.
I like my deli meat freshly sliced and then I use it up quickly. We forget that we live in a modern age with plenty of available products at the neighborhood grocery store so why not shop more often for fresh food? Sure it takes a little more time, but we end up wasting a whole lot of food when we "stock" up because it gets spoiled.
We don't live 50 miles from the store or have to make it through a snowbound winter anymore! At least most of us don't!
Friendlygirl, you bring up a great point. However, I'd love to hear from families that do live far away from the store, or those that suffer brutal winters. I wonder how they go about stocking up and making items last as long as possible?
You've just given me an idea for a new thread and article idea--thank you!
